A road crash near Roi Et Airport on the afternoon of 9 April, resulted in the death of a 43-year-old man after the pickup truck he was driving lost control and collided with a roadside post.

The incident occurred at approximately 16:00 on the Roi Et–Phon Thong Road, just before the traffic lights in front of the airport. According to initial reports, the pickup truck driver veered off the road at high speed and slammed into a large directional signpost with significant force to wrap it around the post.

Emergency response teams from Nakhon Saket EMS, Asok Thawatch EMS, the Phra Ratchawachirawitthayakom Foundation, Roi Et Highway Police Rescue, and Thawatchaburi Hospital were dispatched to the scene. Rescue personnel found the driver trapped inside the mangled remains of the vehicle and had to deploy hydraulic cutting equipment to extract the body.

The driver, later identified as Mr. Thawatchai Thani, was pronounced dead at the scene. He sustained fatal injuries as a result of the impact and was alone in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The crash site was cordoned off while authorities conducted an initial investigation into the cause of the incident. Weather conditions were reportedly clear at the time, and the road surface dry. Police are continuing their inquiry into what may have led to the driver losing control of the vehicle, with speed under consideration as the most likely cause.

The force of the impact left the vehicle severely damaged and caused significant destruction to the road signage structure. Road crews were later dispatched to carry out temporary repairs and ensure the area was safe for traffic.

This incident adds to a growing concern about road safety in Roi Et province, where a number of serious accidents have occurred in recent months. Authorities are expected to review safety measures and signage placement in the area as part of their ongoing response.
