The U.S dollar index is now under 100

Featured Replies

The dollar index has plummeted from 109 the day that Trump took office to 99 today. This will translate to lower exchange rates for the U.S Dollar. Are American expats here concerned?

Whatever happens in Tango land rest assured the Mighty Baht will remain unaffected🤔

well I note it has lost one baht to a dollar in the past week or so...depending on how much one sends regularly that can add up plus we have no idea what other schemes Trump and Co. will reveal in the future

It's something to keep an eye on for sure, as there are limits to what the markets will tolerate, over the short term.  On the other hand, the US dollar does not exist in a vacuum.  Around the world, central banks are all playing the same debt-based game, to a degree.  I see that Thailand is now preparing a "stimulus package" to deal with the effects of the trade war.

On the whole, I'm not too worried about the Thai/US Dollar exchange rate, going forward, at least for the next year or two.  Can exchange rates fluctuate?  Sure.  But so what? That happens on a regular basis. Just never think that the Thai baht can't also be affected by the effects of money printing.

That's why the markets call it Teflon Thailand. Doesn't matter how bad the news is, nothing sticks. :coffee1:

No ...

Jan 21st ... ฿34 / $1

I might get concerned IF it goes below ฿30 / $1 ...

... or not, since it's done that numerous times in the past 20 years.

Well, the USDX was dropping for a few days, but it looks like it wants to hang around the 99 range for the time being.  Here's a six month chart.  Lower than when Trump took office, but maybe it'll stabilize here for a while.

Long term, Trump wants a cheaper dollar and he'll probably get it, but vs.. the Thai baht, I'm not too worried.
