With the latest orders and deliveries numbers, Boeing’s backlog of orders now stands at 5,626 jets, up from 5,324 a year ago.

That article is from over a year ago. Presumably they've had a number of order cancellations since then and, combine that with the fact that China is pulling out, then things are probably not looking so rosy anymore. Meanwhile, the stock market is up today and their stock price is down 1.5% on the day.

Do you realize that most Chinese people earn less than 1000 USD per month to live on? That is the average salary for a full time job. Some make even less. Any price increases will surely hurt them quite a lot. Especially to the average person struggling to pay their bills and save a little money.

When I worked there, I was making more than 3 times the salary than the other local teachers.

For those making 1000 USD or less, they won't be buying a lot of imported American products, if at all.  This trade war will have a deflationary effect on prices in China (in China, not America), meaning things will get cheaper on average.

The problem is that Chinese exports to the US will go down, which means reduced money/business.  The deflationary effect will touch on salaries as well, at the very least that 1000 USD/month worker won't be getting a raise.

Given Boeings high standards for aircraft (haha) they can always pawn their planes to another country. This will not hurt the company any more than their planes crashing from substandard building and maintenance.

This Article is completely biased. They leave out pertinent information related to the topic like... Those countries he suspended the tariffs agreed to come negotiate a viable trade deal with Trump and the US. Beijing just wants a fight and now they have it with Trump. Neither wants to fold.

Maybe China's next step will be to stop all trade. They will of course suffer more repercussions than the US.

Let the trade (wars) begin. We all knew it was coming in the next few years anyway.

The article is biased. It's about China suspending the purchase of jets. Its reasons for doing so are clearly part of the story. What other nations may be doing is not part of this story.

As for "We all knew it was coming..." speak for yourself.

You have to employ "Trump-hater" logic.

If Trump raises tariffs and it is perceived as harming the US economy, it is bad, because he is Trump.  If Xi raises tariffs and it is perceived as harming the Chinese economy, it is good, because he is not Trump.

How is China not buying American aircraft damaging the Chinese economy? Explain your weird logic.

I was watching the TV this morning Ryanair has a lot of 737’s on order but they have said they will not pay the additional cost of the tariffs so who will pay Boeing and lose money or will Ryanair cancel the order and switch to Airbus

This could backfire on China big time and long term. Both Boeing and Airbus have huge back logs for orders, years out. I heard China might make a jet at some point but if those orders get taken they will be waiting for a decade for planes if anybody will deal with them.

It could also backfire on China if the US finds other places to export what the US needs basically making the need to trade with China minimal if non-existent. There are lots of countries that will see this as an opportunity not only to produce and export more to the US but also it may bring more allies that teeter between US and China alliance. Take for example greenland decides to begin exporting some of the rare earth minerals that they have such a surplus with even more than china has.

Apart from the dubious method of threatening countries to cooperate, china has a huge and advanced industrial base. How many years do you think it would take to replace? How much sacrifice do you think the American electorate is willing to put up with. Trump didn't campaign calling on Americans to make sacrifices. And by the way, right now Greenland produces zero rare earths. And not much else either in the way of minerals. It's got a punishing climate.

Who is Greenland going to sell to?

The guy who is agreement incapable and has threatened to take their country/territory by force?

Or the country that wants to build infrastructure there, and who pays for the stuff they take out.....

It’s all a pipe dream. The US has wanted to stop trading with China for decades, but it can’t because there’s no alternative source for that $500+ billion worth of annual goods, and they can’t produce it themselves. All the “what if this” and “what if that” talk is just a big waste of time. Meanwhile, China can easily live without the US. The only reason they ever bought anything from the US was to keep the trade deficit from ballooning even more. But now they just don’t care. China will get what it needs elsewhere, most likely at even lower cost, and the US will struggle. Sure, there are other potential sources for the same products and raw materials the US needs, but at what cost to the US? If a better or even equal option to China existed, the US would’ve taken it a long time ago.

China has told its airlines to stop taking deliveries of jets from American aviation giant Boeing, a report said Tuesday, as a trade war between Beijing and the United States deepens.

Since President Donald Trump took office in January, the world's two biggest economies have been locked in a tit-for-tat tariff war, with the US now charging levies of up to 145 percent on imports from China.

Beijing has reacted furiously to what it calls unlawful "bullying" by Washington and has imposed retaliatory duties of 125 percent on US imports, dismissing further hikes as pointless.

Bloomberg News reported Tuesday that China had also ordered airlines to halt deliveries of Boeing planes, citing people familiar with the matter.

Beijing has also told its carriers to suspend purchases of aircraft-related equipment and parts from US companies, the financial news outlet reported the people as saying.

AFP has contacted Boeing and China's foreign ministry for comment.

Beijing's reciprocal tariffs on US imports would likely have triggered significant rises in the cost of bringing in aircraft and components.

Bloomberg said the Chinese government is mulling helping carriers that lease Boeing jets and face higher costs.

Trump's fusillade of tariffs has roiled world markets and upended diplomacy with allies and adversaries alike.

The mercurial US leader announced an abrupt freeze on further hikes last week but gave Beijing no immediate reprieve.

US officials on Friday announced exemptions from the latest duties against China and others for a range of high-end tech goods such as smartphones, semiconductors and computers.

This will ground many aircraft since parts are needed for maintenance.

Also, we need both Boeing and Airbus to stop shipping EVERYTHING to China.

China soon will have everything they need to build their own planes or service Boeings if need be . The have nearly all parts of the supply chain in place and Musks factory will be toast if the US is not careful. They don't want this fight but they sure as hell will win it if the US chooses to go down that route.

And the EU will definitely carefully consider joining the US in this effort because of the solid support Trump has shown America's allies. It could happen. In Oppositeworld.

Yes.

We should have acted far sooner.

Instead, we taught them how to build aircraft.

They are very smart.

And, our leaders are FOOLS.

And, our Corporate Leaders are no better than prostitutes.

GG, are you OK? Off your meds again? China makes the parts and supplies them to Boeing. 😂

I KNOW!!!

This is the problem, my friend.

Boeing chose to outsource production of these parts to China.

THIS was part of the DEAL for an agreement to buy Boeing planes.

And, China learned a heck of a lot from this deal.

Or, did you not realize the details of the Boeing China business????????

This may not end well.

But, previous leadership has left us no other choice.

We can either stop now, or go even further down this rabbit hole.

We may lose either way.

But, it is best to give the finger to China before we go underwater, at the very least.

Trump and his fool friends have not only picked a trade war with a bigger bully China , they have  lost the trust of UK, Europe,Canada, Mexico  Australia, Japan , Korea  ,India and many other major  powers  ,, they have  disrespected allies and enemies  equally and trashed the rule of law and diplomacy ,, they have shown  massive ignorance   and soon the bulk of the American people will turn on trump and his fools  with huge anger ......there will be a reckoning  ,  and a reset but it wont be nice  it will be very messy and a lot of Americans are going to suffer ....

Some in the EU, surely, must realize that they are in the same situation as the USA.

Yet, the weaklings refuse to act.

They will pay the price for their shortsightedness.
