driveout Posted April 25 Posted April 25 Hi everyone, Right now I’m on a tourist visa, and I’ve heard mixed experiences — some people say getting a TIN is easy, while others say it can be a bit of a hassle depending on who you talk to at the Revenue Department. Is it only possible to get it if you stay 180 days in Thailand in a kalander year? I’m also wondering: Can I get a TIN while on a tourist visa? Do the yellow house book or pink Thai ID card include or help generate a TIN? Any tips or recent experiences on how to successfully apply for a TIN? I really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks in advance! 2

Thanks in advance! Easiest, if you have a Thai bank account: Ask to have the withholding tax on the interested refunded. Get a statement of the withholding tax at any bank branch (takes less than 20 minutes), and take it to the local revenue office (less than 1 hour). There is no minimum, but maybe they are not happy if you ask for a refund of 26 satang. 1 2

worrab Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Two obvious questions is how many days are you in Thailand for in a calendar year? Are you remitting monies to Thailand? Under 180 days then no need to worry and the same if you are not remitting monies. If you are on a tourist visa, then not very long unless you are looking to change to a long term visa? Why worry about a TIN and open up a can of worms? 1 1 1

Thanks in advance! 1) You need to go to the revenue department – the branch hyou need will be in the customs house, where you register for vat and TIN – and apply for a TIN. You will get a little matrix-written slip with proof of your TIN. It should be fairly easy to apply now, when all foreigners staying 180 days and more need to pay income tax of transferred fund. 2) A Yellow House Book includes a Thai ID-number for aliens, which is same number used for TIN and on a pink ID-card. I'm not sure if you still need to visit the revenue office to activate the Yellow House Book ID-number as TIN, or you just do it online when register for the tax return form. 3) Where I live it's easy and kind service in the revenue office. The online tax return dorm also works well, if you don't have any foreign paid income tax to deduct. 1

shackleton Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Seems a few people worried over this TIN Go to a Thai lawyer and pay them for advice Or like most forget it until your bank or Immigration ask 1 1
BritManToo Posted April 27 Posted April 27 The easiest path is not to have one! Ignore it until it goes away ..... flip flop. 1 1
Sydebolle Posted April 27 Posted April 27 That whole TIN story, the taxation of retiree income etc. etc. etc. Keep C O O L - if they want something from you they will certainly make sure that you know; be it at the 90-days-joke or the yearly one-year-visa-renewal. Until then you can rest assured, that nothing will happen. Sooooooo many ideas were tabled over all those decades I've been living here; if I would have taken each and every one serious I would be no longer alive. A tourist is - whatever you hear - excepted and this house registration book for non-Thais in yellow etc. is not for tourists either. Need to know anything, get it from the horse's mouth and Bob's your uncle! 1

Maestro Posted April 27 Posted April 27 This topic is exclusively above how to get a TIN (Tax Identification Number) It is not about the requirement — or the lack of it — to pay taxes. There are several other topics discussing this. Further off-topic post will be removed without a public notice. If a post disappears, it is for the reason indicated above.
