A pickup truck driver, carrying a group of foreign tourists lost control and crashed into several local homes in the Maewang district of Chiang Mai on the  afternoon of 27 April, leaving six people injured, two of them seriously.

The crash occurred at approximately 14.30, on the winding road leading to the popular Maewin Waterfall in Mae Wang. According to officers from Mae Wang Police Station, the pickup truck, travelling downhill on a steep and curved stretch of road, veered off course, plunging down a slope before colliding with houses situated along the roadside.

Emergency responders, alongside local police officers, were quickly dispatched to the scene following an emergency call. Upon arrival, they found the damaged vehicle and multiple casualties. It was confirmed that the pickup truck was transporting six foreign tourists at the time of the incident.

Early reports suggest that the driver lost control of the vehicle while navigating the downhill bend, leading to the crash into residential properties. Among the injured were a mother and her young child, both of whom are reported to be in a serious condition. All injured parties were swiftly transported to nearby medical facilities, including Mae Wang Hospital and Sanpatong Hospital, for urgent treatment.

Authorities are now conducting a thorough investigation to determine the precise cause of the incident. Investigators are examining whether mechanical failure, excessive speed, or driver error may have played a role.

The incident has raised renewed concerns about road safety in popular tourist areas, particularly in regions where narrow, steep, and winding roads are commonly used by tour operators and local residents alike.

Yeah well most of the tour operators aren’t from around here and continue to drive as though they’re still in bkk.
