The runway at Long Thanh International Airport in Dong Nai Province has been illuminated and is set to facilitate test flights ahead of its April 30 deadline. The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) announced that the newly activated lighting system, featuring advanced LED technology from Europe, has passed trial operations and is now test-ready.

This cutting-edge lighting system adheres to the highest international aviation standards. It is integrated with an Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) to ensure precise aircraft landings, even in adverse weather conditions. The combination of these technologies enhances the airport's capability to provide safe and reliable operations.

To bring this project to fruition, ACV coordinated the efforts of 1,025 personnel, 243 pieces of equipment, and 30 construction teams, all focused on installing systems essential for the stable and secure operation of the airport.

ACV emphasized that the successful activation of the lighting system marks a crucial milestone, confirming the runway's readiness for test flights by the end of April as planned.

Spanning 5,000 hectares and with an estimated cost of VND336.6 trillion (approximately US$14 billion), Long Thanh International Airport is poised to become Vietnam's largest airport, replacing Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City. The first phase, expected to be completed by 2026, includes constructing a runway, a passenger terminal, and facilities to handle 25 million passengers annually.

The first runway, at 4 km long and 70 meters wide, is designed to accommodate the latest aircraft models, forming part of a comprehensive VND7 trillion package. This package also covers taxiways, rapid exit taxiways, aircraft aprons, and service vehicle aprons, underscoring the project's scale and ambition in transforming Vietnam's aviation landscape.
