In all, Chinese officials have stopped publishing hundreds of data points once used by researchers and investors, according to a Wall Street Journal analysis.
In most cases, Chinese authorities haven’t given any reason for ending or withholding data. But the missing numbers have come as the world’s second biggest economy has stumbled under the weight of excessive debt, a crumbling real-estate market and other troubles—spurring heavy-handed efforts by authorities to control the narrative.

Because the harm only goes one way? Let's see how Americans feel about this in a couple of months.

You're coming round to reality. Bravo! Of course this is still a lot better than simply LYING about GPD figures as China admitted doing in the past.

But it's obvious why the data is disappearing mysteriously, don't you think?

China's veneer of wealth could disappear, but the Chinese steadfastness will remain. Westerners have a difficult time understanding the mainland Chinese mentality or value system. They are a tough people used to hardship and capable of  enduring  pain  for the benefit of their families and future generations. As long as there is food, even if basic, and a clear statement of a national goal and direction, the Chinese people will not falter. They will remain united when faced with an external threat. One need only watch some of the more popular Chinese dramas and comedies. The scripts always emphasize a need for the Chinese to stick together and to help each other. They are like a colony of army ants who ill sacrifice their all for the benefit of the pupae and Queen. That is why GDP data and other financial indicators that the west relies on, are not reliable indicators of  the Chinese  sentiment.

So very true Sunny and Winnie will soon come crying to President Trump with an offer to balance the trade issue.

You have to be insane if you think this doesn't also hurt the Chinese and probably much more than it does the USA.

Perhaps but the Chinese are used to pain I’m sure their iron fisted government will apprise them of that if they falter.allready the farmers here are getting slaughtered just wait till there’s nothing on the shelves to buy (at any price) and no food because there’s no labor to harvest it.i would be delighted to be wrong about this and time will tell best prepare.

There is a new wave of Chinese raised on Starbucks and iPhones. The age of the tough guy has passed. Chinese companies can't even report their books because they are that bad. This is why they may become delisted from American exchanges. There is no there, there, folks.

Well Chinese factories are grinding to a halt, there are boats of goods with no destination, Europe is saying don't dump it on us are they will face tariffs. China has to hide their numbers because it is going to get real ugly real quick.

The thing is they can't hide the numbers to their businesses. To their employees, they can censor their speech but those people can see for themselves.

It's only a bargain for shortsighted dimwits. It's like a dope dealer giving you a free rock of crack. Sounds great.

You have to have dyslexia or worse if the believe that's the meaning of what I wrote. Again, here's what I wrote: "Because the harm only goes one way?" Do I really have to spell out the point I was making? It seems blatantly obvious to me.
