Why do you think that my nephew and his girlfriend who came to visit and spent three weeks in Thailand and two in Vietnam are Thai? Weird assumption. They are both English.

Most of the people voting down are the grumpy old men here who hate Thailand (you are included in that).

Most people who've been to both and are not blinkered by hatred think Thailand has more going for it.

But you are entitled to your own opinion. Wonder why you're not living in Vietnam?

nonsense ... deleted & ignore. 1st person on AN.   wake up and smell the coffee ..   Lol

It seems like Thailand is about to find out that if you act like your customers have no other choice, when they actually do, you're going to lose those customers.

Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?
Probably...
Let's see.  The Thai cops descends on a hotel where Indian vacationers and having drug-free pool-side fun and enjoying music and beer - and they bust it as though everyone there are hardened criminals.  Why?  Why not - foreigners were having fun and foreigner tourist having fun just can't be allowed.  If they aren't doing anything wrong, make up excuses and try to find reasons to bust them.

I guess if Thailand wants to keep this behavior up, they'll continue to lose tourist to venues where tourist are actually welcomed by their host country.  Here in Thailand, all tourists are pretty much assumed to be criminals and a national security risk, all of whom must be closely watched by the police.

Thailand may not understand it, but they are losing their luster. If I was at a hotel listening to the music and drinking a few beers by the poolside and the cops came rushing in rounding up all of the vacationers and subjected them to pee tests and questioning?  I'd never come back - ever. And I'd tell all of my friends and family as well.

 It was noisy!

Ffs - who controls the volume level on the outdoor speakers at a hotel?  The hotel staff does. Who controls the occupany numbers in the lounge and pool area.  The hotel staff does.  But "raid" the hotel because the (dark-skinned) hotel guests were having fun like people on vacation do.  Beyond belief.  Thailand needs only to look at itself in a mirror to ascertain where the problem with tourism loss lies. It's an "own goal."

Vietnam's air quality is just as bad if not worse. My nephew had a full blown asthma attack there in March and it put him in hospital for three days.

Have you walked around HCMC? Death trap pavements. Killer scooters.

I didn't say it has clean air or good pavements? But Vietnam is a lot cheaper and it's closeness to the coast makes the air a lot better than Thailand. Although yes all the factories near HCMC etc does often give toxic days. Most of the country is green at the moment.

Meanwhile Thailand is orange
