This is the problem with Thailand - it is attracting some awful tourists drawn by the relaxed visa rules and ease of drug use. 

 

The country has to toughen up. Yes, they want tourism, but long term visitors with such easy access is akin to open door immigration. The DTV needs to be toughened up so you don't end up with dross.

The issue is, no matter what context she has said it, she said that. And that type of attitude, which looks down upon Thai people, will strike a chord with the locals who believe in their heart they are being disrespected. And her comments go out their way to show that their intuition is true. 

 

The government really needs to take a long at allowing long term people to stay here. You now have enclaves of Russians, Isrealis and Indians just dominating certain towns and trashing them.

Some of the comments  are real filth.  Nice hypocritical double standard too. The comments are somewhat more restrained when a toothless  inked up European beats someone up. The woman is rude and is obviously not experienced in dealing with criticism, but it is hardly the capital offence some of the malicious blowhards wish to make it.

How do you know? Did you inspect her foot and check her medical records? When I injured  my foot a couple years ago, I was in excruciating pain when I wasn't wearing  a shoe with with an arch support. One couldn't tell by looking at me, but I had to be taped up for weeks.

Really? You have no idea who she is or what she does for her livelihood.  And what past events in Thailand demonstrate that "they" will claim that they own Thailand?  Why not just be honest and say you hate "them" because you are envious or have feelings of inadequacy and think that if you make hateful comments  that it will address your own issues?

 She did not oppress anyone. She had an argument with another customer over her wearing of a shoe. Hardly a criminal  incident . Get a grip and stop using this as an opportunity to express your underlying bias.

I do believe her that she was targeted for being an Israeli and that the video was edited to include only her offensive comment while leaving out the abuse she endured before that - but that does not excuse that attitude which unfortunately so many tourists have: no- your money did not build Thailand, you are insignificant in the ocean of tourism and expat money flowing in. You could completely eliminate tourism from Israel and Thailand will hardly notice.

 

It's worth mentioning that the video above was shared by Khaled Tabasha - a Palestinian, and some woman who's probably Arab. A quick look at their IG shows they constantly post anti-Israeli content. So yes this is a targeted attack based solely on her racial background- they wouldn't bat an eye if she was another nationality.

I wonder how she would feel if a Thai went to Israel and didn't adhere to Israeli customs/social behavior.

She needs to remember she's a guest in Thailand, even after living here full time for 30+ years I still think that way.

Many posters have written how economically important the retirees are for Thailand (sorry,  they are not important at all).

 

And as for speaking  English, for the vast majority of posters it is an important point if Thais - staff, girls, bureaucrats, whoever - can (or cannot) speak English. Just because they are monolingual (or less than that)

 Many people go to israel and do not  follow  local customs/social behaviour. I went to the one of the Churches and removed my hat as I was taught to do. A European did not and was admonished by one of the church wardens. In many of the religious locations, Europeans show up in skimpy attire and make fools of themselves. Unlike in Thailand no one turns it into a  cause celebre. They are asked to cover up. Some leave in a huff. The woman had permission from the cafe to wear her shoe.

 

She was suckered by the person recording and like a gullible idiot got into an argument with him which was recorded.
