It's already getting ugly in China.

As per the NY Times link above and the bold highlight, maybe the Chinese are just giving themselves out if 'success' requires Donald Trump to admit he was wrong about ANYTHING.

That meaningless statement from the unnamed, anonymous Chinese spokesperson :cheesy:

If I want to know what to expect from the CN - USA trade negotiations, before they happen, I'll ask my dog, as surely the info will be just as accurate.

I got a bunch of feeds of youtube vids where chaos was breaking out in china.

i figured it was fake news.

the fake news isn't going to go away any time soon.

you need to sift through a whole lotta garbage to get to facts these days.

A suit is underway in Federal Court claiming that the Trump tariff is unlawful under the IEEPA.

As to what if any attention the Chinese are paying to that, I have never seen any reference.

That kind of litigation probably won't be settled overnight. In the meantime, there will be a trade deal with China.

Stories like the one in the OP pops up once a week. When it's getting reported in the reputable part of media (sane media) I'll pay attention.

The linked story contains a picture of some workers who might, or might not, be Chinese standing around doing nothing.

Quote from the linked article in the OP:

"Chinese industry leaders, meanwhile, are “extremely anxious” about the steep duties, with many telling factories and suppliers to halt or delay supplies, Wang Xin, head of an industry group representing more than 2,000 Chinese merchants told the Financial Times."

If you go to the article in FT there's no mention of unrest. Wake me up when reputable news sources (like FT) do,

The case is moving last action 06 MAY.

It's not a slam dunk case, in any event.  And in this case, the court might be reluctant to conclude that Trump isn't acting within his powers under the Act.

It is not a slam dunk and there is no restraining order involved.

I will just go with who is handling the case that the case is not frivolous.

Apparently, the people opposing the tariffs have a couple of legal theories. And while the cases are not frivolous, once you factor in the political aspects, the courts may well be reluctant to wade into the matter.  I'd be surprised if the issues are settled anytime soon.

If I actually cared about USA / CN relations, then I might :cheesy:

Thankfully don't live in either country, or buy anything in or from the USA.  As do most other AN members.

I think the reference is to the situation within China, not the negotiations.  And from what I hear, the situation in China is far from perfect right now.  A collapsed real estate market, bankrupt mortgage lenders, closing factories, angry laid off workers, all but empty retail stores, among other problems.  Xi doesn't really have the luxury of trying to outlast the US Fed and their ability to counterfeit the world reserve currency at will. Hence, the trade negotiations will begin in Switzerland.

I think China just cut interest rates, and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have done that if their economy was doing well.  Their currency was already under pressure.

So, not much different than the rest of the world ... :coffee1:

Well, for those sipping from their half empty glass vs the folks sipping from the half full glass 😎

Until any trade deal is actually signed, if so, and then delivered to Congress to get ratified, then the entertainment will continue.

Yep, you may be "born" in the USA, but it don't mean you live in the USA no more.

end up like a dog that's been beat too much.

Once in a while, I buy things from the USA Amazon and those purchases are shipped to Thailand.  Depending on what you buy, the import duties aren't too much and the shipping may be free.

Maybe tall that will stop, if the tariffs go into effect.

"If the United States wants to resolve the issue through negotiations,” the spokesperson added, “it must face up to the serious negative impact of unilateral tariff measures on itself and the world, face up to international economic and trade rules, fairness and justice, and rational voices from all walks of life, show sincerity in talks, correct its wrong practices, meet China halfway and resolve the concerns of both sides through equal consultation.”

While the US Administration is clearly the source of the current round of self-defeating nonsense, any country - such as Oz - that has been the victim of Chinese trade bullying in recent years would laugh cynically at Chinese moral posturing.

The NY Post is not credible, nor is the well monikered OP. Anyone that has ever been to China will know that they will destroy Trump and are remaking the world financial order to suit themselves. China is just getting started.

There is no tariff on exports, but Amazon is not the best choice for Thai delivery
