Phuket is set to spice up this June with an ambitious bid to capture a Guinness World Record for its famous Phuket Hokkien Noodles. The record-breaking event will be the star attraction at the Phuket Peranakan Festival 2025, scheduled from June 20 to 22. Bringing together over 200 chefs, restaurants, and community groups, the event aims to showcase this iconic dish and put it on the global culinary map.

The audacious noodle challenge was officially announced on May 6 during a press conference at the Phuket Merlin Hotel. Anchalee Vanich Thepbutr, an Advisor to the Peranakan Association of Thailand, emphasized that the festival intends to elevate Phuket's cultural heritage internationally. "The festival’s theme, Island of Artistic, is about celebrating the unique blend of heritage, food, and performance art that defines our region,” she explained.

Anchalee further highlighted that the event would set the stage for the Thailand Biennale Phuket 2025, another significant cultural highlight scheduled for later this year.

Key figures such as Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong, PPAO Chief Rewat Areerob, and Boonperm Intanapasat, President of TIEFA, were present at the launch. Kosol Tang-Uthai, President of the Peranakan Association of Thailand, was also in attendance, contributing to the event's strong local backing.

One of the festival's highlights is the expanded Carnival Parade, featuring more than 20 spectacular processions and 2,000 performers from Peranakan communities throughout Thailand and the Malay Peninsula. The parade's newly extended route will go through notable landmarks like the Shell Roundabout, finishing at the picturesque Saphan Hin Cape.

With an anticipated attendance of over 15,000 spectators, festival organisers project that the three-day celebration will generate upwards of 400 million baht in tourism revenue.

Phuket's growing status as a global cultural destination is supported by various prestigious accolades, including the Creative City Award for Cultural Asset in Thailand and the Asia Pinnacle Award from Asia IFEA. Furthermore, Phuket recently secured the Gold Pinnacle Award at the IFEA Annual Convention & Expo in the United States, with support from the TCEB's Southern chapter.

This upcoming festival not only promises to celebrate Phuket’s rich cultural legacy but also aims to bolster its position as a premier cultural and culinary hub on the world stage.
