Pattaya Authorities Launch “Operation Coconut Ghosts” to Crack Down on Foreign Prostitution

IMHO I think they have done a good job.

The Thai girls are usually sending the money back to their family for  schooling their kids or the family.

I am almost certain not many of them enjoy drunk men crawling over their bodies.

I don't know if anyone agrees with me.

Yes.  Foreigners cannot do it.  Although soliciting for prostitution is also illegal for Thais, they can legally work in the 'entertainment' industry and bars, but foreigners cannot.  Prostitution itself is not illegal.

They can work in bars but they cannot practice prostitution. There are occasional efforts to change the laws.

not nice to get harrased and pestered by african prostitutes and drug dealers every 2 minutes and the constant stream  of watch sellers.  bangkok as bad, and if you go to bars in phuket nigerians sitting bars selling drugs, i had to jump through hoops of fire and constant money grabs to get visas and work permits for a legitimate business. yet these wasters, crooks hand a few quid to the cops allowed to roam the streets

I thought the idea was to pay for the lady's taxi home, or give her some money for fuel rather than to pay for sexual services. Paying for sexual services is prostitution...

Paying for sexual services is not illegal in Thailand.  Some aspects of prostitution are (underage, soliciting, brothels), but nothing illegal about paying for or selling sexual services in private.

Not in the bars they can't.  But that's why there are short-time hotels!  You'll find them in every Thai town.

All that firepower to get 13 prozzies standing out in plain sight, in one place. They must have worked their nuts off all night long.

Unless the laws have changed it is very much illegal. Any offering of money or gift exchange for sex is illegal.
unless it’s a dowry and then the age drops down to 16 I believe.
they can legally work as anything but a ho even though they a ho.

Paying money for sex is not illegal in Thailand, as long as both parties are 18 or over.  Many aspects of prostitution are illegal, such as underage, soliciting and running a brothel.  Paying for sex must not be carried out "promiscuously" which is rather ambiguous.  Various pieces of legislation exist that regulate prostitution, and allow bars, gogos and entertainment places to operate within the law.

4 officers required for each detainee eh ?

Where was that stated to be the requirement, eh?  They're in a police station, what personnel do you expect to see there?

Such brave boys in the RTP arresting girls on the game on the street. Might be better to reallocate those involved in this pathetic exercise to addressing crimes involving rape, murder and theft.

The officers involved in this operation are not the only officers in the force, there are many others doing the job you lamely suggested those pictured should be doing.

I agree with the crack down.

However, why only on foreigners ??😳

The majority I suppose are Thais?😳

The Thai prossies are frequently rounded, charged and fined up for the same offences as frequently reported.

...but paying for sex is not illegal.  Neither is just being paid for sex illegal.  The illegality is determined by the circumstances and the premises on which it occurs.

That is not correct...unless you can quote the section of the Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act that confirms it.

I googled "Is prostitution illegal in Thailand. The response was," While the sale of sexual acts is not explicitly illegal in Thailand, public solicitation for prostitution and some related activities like running brothels and trafficking are prohibited by law. Despite these laws, prostitution persists, especially in tourist areas, and is often tolerated due to factors like corruption and economic reliance".

Totally sums up the RTP. What a joke!

To help me understand, could you give some examples of circumstances when it would be legal to offer or pay for sex here?

Yet nothing happens when it comes to the 1,000s of Thai girls  hanging outside all the Thai bars in the likes of Pattaya Phuket Koh Samui selling sex to tourists  it’s time to say goodbye to the monthly brown envelopes and close these places down but we know that will never ever happen !

A lot of plonkers on this thread who can not understand that it is illegal for the foreigners to work as hookers in Thailand.

Police just doing their job rounding them up. If they didn’t there would be thousands of the sluts done there plying their trade.

Try reading The Prevention and Suppression of Prostitution Act, B.E. 2539.

If you meet a girl in a bar, restaurant, club, pool room, etc., and take her home (or anywhere) and she asks for money for sex, or is offered money for sex, that is not illegal.

If, for example, a girlfriend would only take it up the you-know-where for a consideration that is not illegal.

It can and does if they are soliciting sex...and they need to be caught doing it, not just be there. Hanging out outside bars is not illegal and definitely is not prostitution under The Act.

Pol. Lt. Col. Tinamat stated that the crackdown was part of a national directive from Police Commissioner-General Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanpet, aimed at bolstering safety in tourist areas and curbing crimes.

Why aren't they concentrating on the 3rd sex?
