UK Pensions Query

Featured Replies

I am not spending 40 mins on a phone because of these DWP incompetents. I wonder how much that costs you. I am going to the UK in about six weeks and if my pension is not reinstated by then they are going to have to pay about 3 months back dated pension.

And when they look at your passport to see you have lived here á long'time'?

It will not be 'back dated' pension, it should be whatever you are entitled to

They can stop your pension if you're dead. But if they make a mistake, and you're not dead, they have to make up the payments.   Best to be 'living in the UK' where no proof of life for

  • So they accepted your phone call as being the necessary proof that you were still in the land of the living in lieu of a fresh Life Cert? I distinctly recall someone else on here who called them recen

At whatever rate it was when you 'left' UK.

Not necessarily.........depends on the reason for the payment being stopped.

If, as most likely, it is a Life Certificate situation the payments are already frozen and will indeed be at the rate when DWP were advised of residency in Thailand.

They will look at nothing, not interested, excepting their own little empire, jobs for the boys and girls.Personally id switch to wise for SP,take it from their clutches, wise has its own bank code, balances pay just short of 4%,which is a cracking rate, plus you can decide which days u want transfer done, mid week transfers usually better for GBR than weekends

What do you know about what's in my passport and what my past is?

I did not say that I personally know what is in your passports, but i am sure the DWP and other government departments can look if they want. let's face it, all your ins and outs of UK, Thailand or anywhere else are stored in a computer somewhere.

UK citizens are not required to have passports. I normally tell anyone (that asks) in the UK I've never had one.

Taking your SP from who's clutches?  Mine goes into  my high street bank account, transferred to WISE and converted to THB when the exchange rate is favourable. THB sent to Bkk Bank to arrive on 1st or 2nd, IO is a happy man.

According to Mr ChatGPT, a UK citizen needs a valid passport to leave or enter most other countries, Ireland being exempt if another form of ID is available.

How have YOU, got into Thailand, done anything at Immigration or a Bank, bought a SIM Card, got a D Licence, Yellow Book /Pink ID Card, Work Permit etc.

I take it that you mean if anyone of authority asks you for your Passport, you will lie and say that you never had one, EVER!

Entries and exits at airports are now automatically recorded either by the automatic machine, or the Immigration Officer.

From where did you get the info about no passport needed?

I've never left the UK, so I've never needed a passport.

You say that exits at airports are now automatically recorded. If that is the case then it must have changed only in recent years. I know for a fact that it was not always the case.

The coalition government committed in 2010 to reintroducing exit checks. From 8 April 2015, we will collect information on passengers leaving the UK as we do for those entering.

In 1998 embarkation checks were scrapped entirely.

Since 2004 the UK has moved to a more sophisticated approach to checks by starting to collect Advance Passenger Information (API) for both inbound and outbound air passengers. API includes the passenger’s full name, nationality, date of birth, gender and travel document number, type and country of issue.

It would appear in 1998 embarkation checks were scrapped entirely

What is doesn't say was embarkation checks used from API data

Yep, when I first flew on a  Laker Airways Comet to Mallorca in 1969, I needed one! 555

And we were only allowed 40 quid for the weeks bevvying.
