Thai Teen Gains Support for Education Amid Family Hardships

A story of resilience and community support has emerged in Thailand, where a 16-year-old girl, Noo Dee, found hope after facing overwhelming family difficulties. With her mother, Rung, critically ill from brain tumours and her father, a high-ranking police officer, refusing to support her, Noo Dee's future seemed uncertain.

Recognising the urgent need for assistance, Piao, the owner of a massage shop where Rung worked, sought help through an online community. Rung required immediate medical consent for her treatment, crucial for her survival, while Noo Dee grappled with disruptions to her education due to outstanding tuition fees.

Despite her father's position as a police colonel in the Royal Thai Police, he only provided her a meagre 1,000 baht before severing contact. His justification was his financial woes after spending nearly 2 million baht on his own medical treatment.

In a heartfelt interview on the news programme Hone Krasae on May 12, Noo Dee shared her story, revealing that although she managed to track down some relatives, her future remained in limbo. Her aspirations to become a lawyer seemed out of reach, prompting her to consider enrolling in a vocational college instead and finding part-time work to cover costs.

Noo Dee's plight resonated deeply with the host of Hone Krasae, Kanchai “Noom” Kamnerdploy, who was moved by her determination to continue her education. In a generous gesture, he pledged to support her educational journey financially, ensuring she could graduate from high school or vocational college, whatever path she chose.

Adding to this, contributions from M-150, a popular energy drink brand, and Dutch Mill, a daily product manufacturer, further alleviated financial pressures by donating 20,000 baht each for her living expenses.

This compelling narrative of community and compassion illustrates the power of collective support, showing how individuals and organisations rallied together to ensure a promising future for a determined young girl facing formidable challenges.
