The principle is true for every currency.... unless the Yanks are getting a bum deal on WISE charges - or US banks are giving away SWIFT transfers.

I think WISE charges for US customers may be lower than most.  US account holders have the option of "pushing" funds to their WISE account for free via ACH.  That eliminates one WISE fee.  Also several US financial institutions (generally brokers not banks) offer their customers with higher balances some or every SWIFT transfer for free.

The spread between buy and sell for US$ at Thai banks is the lowest of all currencies.

This doesn't answer your question. After transferring the money to the satisfaction of Immigration, you might like to change banks. Krungsri Bank is rather old-fashioned and basic. My wife and I used to have an account there. I felt like I was going back in time when I needed to use their service.

My dedicated 800k account is with Krungsri and they do the job for me perfectly well, thank you very much. In particular they are able to provide me with a 12-month statement as required by my immigration office at extension of stay time on the spot - in stark contrast to Bangkok Bank, with whom I hold my main account and for whom this is a task which takes them several days to accomplish for some mysterious reason.

Who wants to do 17 transfers to reach 800k+.

Well I did just that when setting up a new dedicated 800k account with Krungsri 3 years ago! No big deal, really in the long-term scheme of things.

Same is true of UK account holders (and I speak from personal experience).

Note to others: Kasikorn and BBL have limit of 2 mill babt per transaction. Better choice of bank imo

Disagree with you as regards BBL because of their inability to provide 12-month statements, as required by a number of immigration offices at annual extension of stay time, on the spot, unlike most other banks.

But it's hard to know the final cost.

Agreed. While you should be able to work out Barclays' charges as the SWIFT initiator and also those of the ultimate recipient Thai bank, it is likely that Barclays will route the transfer through a third agency bank at the Thai end. And by how much this third bank will add to the charges is anyone's guess in my experience.

Agreed. Who cares if it's one transfer or 17?

WISE has the ability to schedule recurring payments and, using the technology properly, one can just kick back and relax while consuming the adult beverage of their choice, and watch the 17 transfers (or 34 transfers, or whatever) roll by.

6 months on the spot, 100 Baht.

And I combine them to a seamless one year (3 statements).

Worked last time in Khon Kaen.

You have to specify exact start day.

Both for BB and Kbank I request text in Thai language.

Last entry is always from day before (bit stupid that you can not say 1. Jan to 30. Apr eg., monthly aligned).

Fortunately - according to WISE - for supported banks other than BB, Kbank and SCB the limit is now 500k.

Slightly off topic...but..

Read in various threads some "slowness" with WISE transfers.

Mainly banking finance forum.

Just now I transferred $90aud (1.9mil baht) from Oz bank to my Kasikorn a/c.

Time taken : "instant"
