Dumb Pigeon just crashed into my Picture Window: Not too smart

Dear Folks,

Although I have often said that I hate pigeons, especially when they are so plentiful around here, I must say that I hate to see any living creature crash and burn.

In this case, just a moment ago, the poor thing hit the glass at high speed with a bang, then fell to the tiles below the window, and then crawled into the shrubs.

My question is:  What should I do about this?

a. Good dinner tonight?

b. Take it to the nearest animal hospital?

c. Write about it on TV?

d. Photograph it, and upload it to TV?  (With my Macro Lens)

Is this not just a metaphor for human existence, as well?

How many times do things such as this happen to good people, seemingly out of the blue.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Gamma

Note: Pigeons are notoriously dumb birds, or so I have heard.

Birds are far easier to photograph, up close, when they are dazed.

What is this bird thinking?

What's on its bird-brain mind????

That's not a pigeon. It's a zebra dove. I rescued one years ago.

No, it's not.

That is WALTER Pidgeon.

Very fortunately, there are bars on the windows, if you will notice, on this guy's room.

It may have read some of your posts on this forum and figured enough is enough and attempted suicide.

Have it for dinner, it will make a change from the chicken breasts you keep posting about.

You want me to check if it's still there, staring into space, blankly?

I thought that was your job.

Either it will have carked it, or recovered. You had better hurry, otherwise the ants will get to it before you.

I can't find it now.

Must have wondered/wandered off, someplace nearby.

I will continue to search.

Meanwhile, just now, when I went out to take another photo of the fainted pigeon, I noticed a feint odor of burning cannabis.

Might there be any connection?

Normally, not even once per year, do we smell burning cannabis in my neighborhood.

Just asking.

I used to have a house with floor to ceiling glass windows across the entire back of the house.  Birds would crash into it now and then.  Sometimes, they'd die.  But sometimes, they were just stunned and managed to get up and fly away after a while.

What I was really worried about were all the deer that used to come around.  It wasn't just one or two.  Sometimes, it would be five or six at a time.  Anyway, imagine one of those animals somehow getting spooked and crashing through your window.

I really cannot PICTURE it.

Having several deer fly though my picture window.

Anyway, I am still out searching for the bird.

I have no time to worry about any deer in this area.

Also, I have a wall and a gate to protect me from deer, here in Chiang Mai.

It's the birds I worry about.

I have always had problems with birds, and I will remain single until the end.

Not so much dumb in this case, but inexperienced. It's a juvenile dove, so it has not yet learned the ways of the world. Then you put up an object (window), that was probably transparent or reflective, and confused the little thing when it was just learning to fly. Maybe you should take the blame for this one.

After careful consideration I am willing to concede that the OP is more intelligent than a pigeon.

Well are you sure about that both seem to produce loads of cr?p albeit from different sources

We get pigeons flying into our 6mm dark glass windows all the time, they usually break their necks.

One day we had some sort of hawk hit the glass just by way of a change.

Actually, quite sad.

Rather a beautiful specimen, as well.

Maybe the only way is to plant bananas to completely cover the window.

I would DEFINITELY be up for this.

And, this might reduce glare from outside.

Of course, I would need POTS, flower pots.

But, as I am not a horticulturist, I would need to consult some AI to learn how.

If not expensive, then I might try this.

Much better than drapes.  And, I love the color green, when it is plant-green.

You can usually attach or hang some small items on the outside of the window, here and there, and it gives birds a 'heads-up' (no pun intended) that something is there. You could put a few decals or stickers on the window, a small suction cup hook with something hanging from it, etc.. Be creative, decorate it the way you like, and maybe fewer birds will end up dazed and confused.

This happens less than once per year.

I would say this might be a 5-year event.

Anyway, the Birds never sang Dazed and Confused.

Banana Trees would be nicer than hanging things, including dice, from a windshield.

Natural is best.

,What you should do is hang things in your window so that it does not look like a continuation of the outside world - - we used to live in the woods of Pa. and we would keep a box handy for them to have a safe place to relax and gain consciousness and then eventually release them.
