I just renewed my Thai driver's license in Pattaya and noticed something weird: my first name and last name are reversed. They said they used the names in the same order as in the resident certificate. Does anyone else have the last name placed before the first name?

It doesn't matter, its still your Driving licence, your Photo, your DOB, your Passport Number, your Nationality etc...

This is 100% a non-issue.

Well, it is an issue because it may cause confusion. When you present your driver's license say at an airport, how do they know what is your first name and last name?

Use your passport if you are concerned.

Thanks, but that was one of the reasons for me to get a Thai driver's license, to use it for flying instead of passport

Its not an issue - even at airports.

I've had tickets with the first and last name reversed (International flights)...

BUT - in an extremely pedantic hypothetical world, he'd use his passport not his Driving License as check-in ID.

Perhaps a little short-sighted...

Given the rules in Thailand on being able to provide Government Issued ID (that can prove your immigration status) within a 'reasonable time frame' - travelling on any domestic flight without your passport would be a little short-sighted...

I did it many times with my previous license, no issues whatsoever

You miss my point...

I check-in for domestic flights with my Pink-ID (or Driving licence)...  but I do not travel to another province without my passport....    as that 'could' cause issue IF for any reason the Police want to see your passport.

If you are comfortable doing so - then thats fine.... But then I'd argue such a relaxed character may also not be concerned with the minor idiosyncrasies of a given-name and surname being reversed....

Having a picture of your visa should be enough. Anyway they have everything in the system

Arguable, often debated, often announced as on measure, then another when a different police chief comes into power, then there are individual provincial requirements based on what 'that specific' police chief requires, if he's bothered to consider the issue in the first place.

My point is - the Passport issue (whether to carry it) is far greater than a 'reverse' name situation on your driving license...

...  showing concern for the irrelevant, and disregard for something considered more important.

You used the 'Checking in with your Driving License' in a 'what if scenario' easily countered by carrying a passport...   Its not a challenging conundrum.

My licence is Surname, first name, second name which matches the passport which is what they said

Same for me.

Am not seeing the OP's issue.... maybe he/she should complain to the person who issued the COR.

Sounds like the OP has his name in the same order as you.  Not an issue of any sort.  My license is First/Second/Surname, maybe I should be the one to complain, mind you I don't use it for flights or hotels, etc.  (UK license and Passport both have Surname first).

It is still a non-issue! particularly since you reference at an airport!

My licence show my first, middle and last names. I flew once and boarding pass only showed first and last. Security had a chat about it before letting me enter.

Also, there is no nationality in the driver's license

Does there need to be? It list your passport number if they really need to know your nationality.

My comment was for @joseThailand.... Not for you unless you got many (fake) names 😂

And my comment was for both of you as mine is as he said.

Get over yourself

I've had both name orders over the years (different DLs issued by different DLTs), and it has never been a problem anywhere, airports included.

But I must say that I prefer the "First Last" name order that my current DL issued in Bangkok has, too.

You can actually use your original driver's license to identify yourself at the airport if they license is on English.

I think that besides passports, only Thai licenses are accepted at Thai airports, or Thai ID cards. Otherwise you could've used your national ID card from your country too, but you can't

I understand your frustration and you should only do what's convenient to you.   Throw that license out the window, it is causing too much harm.   Either 1.  Get another one and see, or 2.  Talk to someone who can actually help you in your travels.

my name is Dun Dun so I really never know what they did.

ah, ha!!!!!  Change your first name to your last name.
