As the onset of the rainy season is anticipated in early June, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured the public of its readiness to respond to potential disasters. PNP Chief Gen. Rommel Marbil confirmed the force's preparedness following an inspection of disaster response equipment at Camp Crame.

"We’re prepared. Our police force is 100 percent prepared to help," Marbil affirmed during a press briefing, underscoring the PNP's commitment to ensuring public safety during adverse weather conditions.

Data from the PNP Public Information Office (PIO) indicates that the PNP is equipped with at least 26,110 communication assets, including tactical radios, repeaters, integrators, and paging systems. The acquisition of numerous satellite phones during the elections further enhances the PNP's communication capabilities, addressing any ground-level deficiencies.

The PNP’s disaster response arsenal includes over 9,328 transportation assets, such as patrol vehicles, speedboats, and helicopters, ensuring rapid deployment and response capabilities. Additionally, the police possess about 8,422 search and rescue equipment, from harnesses and heavy-duty bolt cutters to search lights and chain saws.

During the inspection, PNP units showcased their "go bags," packed with essential personal safety and first aid gear, as a proactive measure for immediate response. The force is also set to issue raincoats to officers to enhance their operational functionality during wet conditions.

Gen. Marbil also highlighted the PNP’s initiative to test mobile water purification systems. The Special Action Force (SAF) currently has three units ready for emergency situations, ensuring access to clean water for affected communities.

This inspection aligns with the forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, expecting the start of the rainy season in early June. The PNP's readiness extends beyond equipment, emphasising a comprehensive approach to disaster preparedness and community support during the forthcoming weather challenges.
