This amusing clip, which has garnered over 11 million views, shows him cruising down the road in Sisaket province while lying face-down on a mattress, firmly grasping the handlebars. The man, seemingly at ease and unfazed by his unconventional position, became an instant hit online. His stunt, which involves lying flat on his stomach and occasionally adjusting his posture without losing control of the bike, intrigued viewers worldwide. Social media exploded with humorous comments and questions. One viewer playfully inquired, "How’s he changing gears lying like that?" Another jested, "What happens if he falls asleep mid-shift?" The standout comment for many was, "He's living my dream—working and sleeping at the same time." The creative use of a mattress has left viewers wondering if it was for comfort or comedic effect, especially in a country known for inventive motorcycle modifications. While in Thailand, quirky vehicle mods aren't uncommon, this mattress-borne ride has carved its own niche in the local folklore of transport creativity. Despite the viral fame, the safety implications haven't gone unnoticed. Although officials haven’t stated if this act breaches any traffic regulations, many netizens raised concerns about the potential risks involved. The spectacle of the mattress-riding man in Sisaket has provided a cheerful diversion, embodying the spirit of ingenuity and humour characteristic of Thailand’s road culture. For now, he enjoys his newfound fame as the latest internet sensation demonstrating yet another unexpected scene from Thailand's vibrant streets. Of course it does! This part stands for the stupidity. 1

Grey are as to whether it’s a “motorbike” or a three wheeled vehicle. it certainly looks dangerous given the lack of access to a rear brake, but I’m not sure if the law says that a three wheeled vehicle has to have a rear brake.

barmatt Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Not only Thailand but in Australia saw a guy transporting a mattress on the roof of his car with his mate in the passenger seat. The driver had one hand on the steering wheel and the other holding down the mattress, his mate was holding down the other side. This happened on the freeway in a 80kph zone and they were only travelling 40kph.....nuts 1
Look Chang Posted May 23 Posted May 23 What a relaxing position to drive a motorbike, I will try it. 😃
spidermike007 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Utterly classic photo. Zero regard for safety. Better to risk one's life and limb, than spend 300 baht hiring someone with a pickup truck. Yet the same man will think nothing of spending that 300 baht on some durian. I remind myself almost every day that the incomprehensibility of this place, is a big part of what attracts me to it.

This is a fine example of a smug, superior Western attitude. You see, safety concerns suggest throwing money at the situation is the way forward. The durian remark is just another petty dig. I see ingenuity.
Jing Joe Posted May 23 Posted May 23 How about this Sunshine coast woman in Queensland yesterday in the process of being fined $376 for carrying her sad dog in a harness on her motorbike? And wasnt for lack of doggy helmet. It was so enjoying the ride just seconds beforehand. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2025-05-23/sunshine-coast-motorbike-rider-fined-for-riding-with-dog/105326962
Jing Joe Posted May 23 Posted May 23 No it wasnt a motorcycle but a 3 wheeled SAMLOR (see video) so was a lot safer than led to believe. Mmmmm. but he was in "gear", "riding" on a mattress, in public, .. now thats different 😉😍
