Aren't free School uniforms just for the poor Children the ones that cannot afford them ?

It's money that you can spend on anything school related (uniform or stationary).

And no, high society schools, like mine, get it too.

No, the uniforms are not very expensive, and next to nothing used.

That is actually the problem with these uniforms especially at the Pratom level

Kidds grow so fast that it gets expensive.

The schools demand that you only wear their uniforms but there is not enough of a sceond hand market at a school.

you have to think that families and kids would take better care of them and that the uniforms could be consigned to second-hand stores

Imagine if they came up with a set uniform shirt and shorts, shoes and such and the government set up a second hand store.  Parents would push Somchai to look after the uniform and then would have the ability to turn in the clean uniform and get another for that year at almostno cost.

The only thing that would have to be stopped is the name on the uniform

The government actually gives the money out for this to all schools, but some schools just keep the money.

If I remember correctly the govt pays for the uniforms up til about 9th grade then they have to buy their own or get hand me downs...at least that is how it was ten years or so ago up north.

In the US poor kids (way back when) liked the uniforms cuz they didn't have to be compared with  others.

My friend hated having to go to school in clothes her mom made.

I don't know how many feel that way here.

People complaining about the school uniforms?!

Many students wear the same clothes for 3 years, and in many cases those are hand me downs. Same when someone here was complaining about 300 Baht shoes... sure that is what some people make in a day... but how much do you spend on your own shoes?!  Just think about what quality you would get if you bought 100 Baht shoes?!

This week the school started here, and on Wednesday I saw 4 students walking barefoot and stup me, I asked them why... in 3 out of the 4 cases they answered that their new shoes had broken.

Kids have to have clothes everywhere in the world, and kids outgrow them quickly everywhere in the world. If kids did not have to wear uniforms, they would have to wear something, and whatever that something was, it would not be free.

Wearing a uniform influences the student to behave and perform like a student.

Teaches dressing "formally" influences the students to respect and obey the teacher.

Everyone dressing in play clothes influences everyone to play.

The education my boy received, and atmosphere he was educated in, was far superior to the education he would have received than he would have received at a typical public school in California where I grew up.

It's not the poor that do not want the kids to wear uniforms. It's the rich that do not want the unforms, and they are pretending to care about the poor to make the case.

The uniforms do not really cost any more than other cheap clothes, and they are available used everywhere.

But I found the mandatory shoes were relatively expensive for poverty family.

Just buy large clothes and the kids will grow into them , the clothes will get old and need replacing before they get too small to wear

Poor people aren't smart enough for that, they always buy tight clothes and shoes for their kids. They are also too stupid to save the old clothes from their older kids, or to get them from there neighbors.

Nice not to have to buy or wear scouts uniform any more.  Thick uncomfortable material with a ridiculous belt and silly hat!

As an ex teacher, I always thought the boys having to have these stupid shaven haircuts was ridiculous.

I did not do anything. My wife, with the help of my office manager got all manner of free stuff.

I do think that its an important lessons to teach kids , that things like school uniforms need to be paid for . That they need to earn money to pay for things , rather than just getting freebies .

Make them realise that the school uniform costs money and they need to take care of it and not to lose it , teach them the value of things rather than just getting freebies.

It could be a reason why so many Thai people think that the way to get money is to ask other people for it ? Why 40 year old men often go and ask their 70 year old grandmother for money for drugs

Good for you, but in my opinion, if there are benefits you qualify for, you are a chump if you do not take them.

I'm pretty sure I paid more taxes and spent more into the economy than at least 95% of the other families with kids at the school.

I paid into Social Security for 55 years, should I not take it now because I don't need it?

I'll teach my kids not to be chumps, thank you very much.

How did you manage to pay Thai social security for 55 years ?

I paid US Social Security for 55 years, and Thai Social Security for 19 years.

School uniforms need to be paid for, they are not free .

If you qualify for free school uniforms due to some scheme to help those with low income  then that's fair enough .

Families who cannot afford School uniforms should receive them for free , but more affluent families shouldn't abuse that

As far as I know, everyone qualifies, I know that we did, and we are not poor. And it's not everything free, it's an allowance.

What happened to your: "I do think that it's an important lesson to teach kids, that things like school uniforms need to be paid for."?

In my opinion, families that cannot afford school uniforms should reprioritize. Like student lunches, either everyone should get them free, or no one should get them free. Why teach kids to be victims?

I was at a major University today with my wife. Unfortunately, the rain and flooding caused me to wait and mingle with the students until the road cleared. I noticed that even among the college students, they have different uniforms. So nice to see these students in nice clothing rather than in jeans with rips in them.

School uniforms are not free and not everyone qualifies for free school uniforms , just those who cannot afford to buy them can get them for free .

There are schemes to help poor children who cannot afford the uniform , seems like you are taking advantage of that .

Same as poor kids who cannot afford school lunches , they should also be fed , but the richer kids shouldn't take advantage of that

Yesterday you seemed to know nothing about the program, today, you are an expert.

I made pretty good dough, I am not a cheater, and we qualified for the allowances.

   Do stop exaggerating .

Yesterday I thought someone . (school uniforms weren't free) and today I looked it up to confirm that .

So, I am neither an "expert" or a "know nothing" .

BTW, which allowances did you qualify for ?

Aren't you going to answer ?

Seems like you got freebies that you weren't entitled to receive .

That is Thai peoples tax payers money for poor people .

You should have paid for the uniform yourself and left the freebies for those that needed it

 Oh that .

I looked up whether Thai school uniforms were free or not .

I didn't look up what people are entitled to free school uniforms

(That's why I asked you )

Care to retract your accusation that I was lying ?

What are you accusing me of lying about ?

Or is that just another attempt to avoid answering the question ?

I am accusing you of lying about looking it up, and about you claiming I taking freebies I wasn't entitled to.

Had you been following the thread, you would know that my boy was in primary about 18 years ago, and that my wife with the help of my office manager applied for the benefits. I am not sure what all it was but I know  it included a monthly "welfare" payment (I think B700), a uniform allowance I think once a year, and stuff they handed out at school every month or two. It was nothing of significance to me.

You should apologize for accusing me of taking freebies I wasn't entitled to.
