In a scene reminiscent of an action film, an 80-year-old grandmother from Roi Et astounded her neighbours and captivated the internet with an astonishing display of agility. The incident occurred on 4th June in Don Hat village, Selaphum district, when Kan Kong Suthiprapa encountered a slithering visitor beneath a neighbour’s house.

While seated on the steps, Grandma Kan was startled by a striped keelback snake speeding towards her. In a split-second reaction driven by sheer panic, she leapt up and clung to a ceiling beam, much to the amazement of onlookers. "I don’t even know where I got the strength from," she admitted, bewildered by her own nimbleness. "I was just so scared when it moved."

The commotion began when the snake, later identified as a non-venomous rat snake, was spotted under a cement sack. A neighbour quickly informed the assistant village headman, who enlisted 26-year-old Temsak Taweethong to handle the situation. Temsak, familiar with snake handling from his foraging exploits, arrived promptly. He initially managed to grasp the snake’s tail, but it wriggled free and made a beeline for Grandma Kan.

Her swift manoeuvre to the rafters has since gone viral after the episode was captured on video. The footage, shared on Facebook with her consent, garnered over 3 million views in just 24 hours. Temsak recounted, “Everyone in the village knows she’s in great shape, and when I saw how high she jumped, it was both shocking and hilarious.”

Following the excitement, Grandma Kan remains in good spirits and continues her active daily routine. The snake, meanwhile, was safely released back into the wild, ensuring no harm to either party.

The village continues to chuckle at their newfound social media star, marveling at her youthful reflexes. "She might be 80, but now we all know she’s got the reflexes of a teenager," noted one neighbour, celebrating the unexpected athleticism of the village's octogenarian sensation.
