Authorities in Surin province are on the hunt for a suspect following the grisly discovery of Pratheep Kongthawee, a 63-year-old LGBTQIA+ man found dead with a stab wound at his home in the Mueang district. The victim's multiple gold accessories were reported missing, intensifying suspicions of a robbery-motivated murder.

The tragic discovery was made by a 20-year-old rescue worker, who regularly visited Pratheep. Upon arriving at the home on the day of the incident, the rescuer observed Pratheep’s lifeless body covered with a red blanket, seated near a sofa. Upon closer examination, he found a stab wound near Pratheep’s left ear, as well as bruises and scratches on his hand, suggesting a struggle had occurred.

The rescuer promptly alerted local residents and officers at Sawai Police Station. According to Ban Muang news agency, police confirmed the stab wound was approximately one inch wide. Nearby, a blood-soaked yellow cloth was found, indicating an unsuccessful attempt by the suspect to clean the crime scene.

Reports from Pratheep’s family and neighbours highlighted that he typically adorned himself with various gold accessories, including necklaces, bracelets, and rings. With these missing, and only a gold necklace left on the body, robbery is suspected to be the motive.

Pratheep’s younger brother provided further insights to Channel 8, describing Pratheep as a relatively wealthy individual known for possessing valuable assets. He often lent money to locals, accepting pawned items in return, and usually carried over 50,000 baht in cash.

Despite Pratheep living alone, his home was frequently visited by children and relatives using the Internet. However, it remains unclear who last visited him prior to the murder.

Police are focusing their investigation on identifying and capturing the perpetrator, with preliminary findings suggesting a premeditated intent to rob. The community remains in shock as authorities continue their efforts to solve the case and bring justice for Pratheep.
