Pattaya City Police, working with municipal special operations officers, detained 22 foreign youths in the early hours of the 4 June, after they were found armed and gathering near a popular tourist area, raising concerns for public safety.

At approximately 03:05, Pol. Col. Anek Srathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, was alerted by Pattaya Special Affairs officers to a large group of foreign youths assembling at the skate park near Bali Hai Pier, South Pattaya, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. The group was reported to be heavily armed, prompting fears they may be preparing to cause a disturbance or engage in violence.

Upon arrival, officers encountered 22 male individuals claiming to be of Cambodian, Burmese and Karen ethnic origin. A search of the area uncovered more than 10 concealed weapons, including sparta-style blades, sickle-like knives and homemade knives with black tape-wrapped handles. These were hidden around the skate park in what authorities believe was an attempt to avoid detection while preparing for a possible violent confrontation.

Fortunately, the authorities were able to intervene in time, preventing any incidents from occurring. A preliminary check revealed that only a few of the individuals were able to produce valid identification documents. Ten motorcycles found at the scene were also seized for inspection.

The group was taken into custody and transported to Pattaya City Police Station, their identities and legal status are being verified. Police are conducting background checks and processing the confiscated weapons and vehicles. Those found to be in violation of Thai law will face legal proceedings.

The arrests took place just a short distance from Pattaya’s well-known Walking Street. Officials emphasised that the swift action by Pattaya’s Special Affairs unit and local police prevented a potentially dangerous incident and underscored the importance of maintaining strict security in tourist zones.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety of both residents and visitors in the city.

..... skate park near Bali Hai Pier, South Pattaya....

Is this under the flyover that goes to Bali Hai?

I've seen a basketball court under there but didn't notice a skate park.

Previously I was thinking to take my preteen daughter there for some exercise but now I'll have to make sure she's packing for any visit.

I've noticed a huge rise in violent crime and entitled attitudes amongst mostly foreigners. The weed shops and ease of visas has attracted the scum of The Earth and are the 2 main reasons for the switch. Violence on a daily basis in Phuket & Pattaya. You only have to look on Tik tok and twitter to see all these Ibiza rejects and Nazis posting their bile and hate while being off their heads on dope...with 1,000s of followers of the same ilk being bombarded with the idea anything goes, what can you expect

Dobyou know the difference between a stoner and a drunk at a stop sign?  The stoner waits for it yo turn green, the drink can't read it. Yup a lit are on drugs, but it ain't dope, drunks are much worse.

Worrying times if true. Were there sporting swastikas, jackboots & helmets? Or more likely, a complete load of tosh by a commentator who lives with a dark, dangerous mindset, who lives in his Mother's basement! 😃

So these were "local" foreigners not farang. I would have been more worried if they had been a bunch of Brits, or Russians or French or Yanks or a mixture of them all.

"Ibiza rejects and Nazis"? I didn't realise that Ibiza was such a big draw for Cambodians, Burmese and karen Nazi tourists.

Whatever but this article is about 22 "foreign" youths with machetes, I think my point and my original reply was relevant to the upsurge in violence...unless that is too complex for you to understand

Remember the Situation on the Cambodian and Burmese border. An attack on tourist in Walking street would really put Thailand under the spot light. Plus, most western tourist don't know the difference between Thai, Burmese, Cambodian males.

Neither can most western long-termers.

Question I would have is "why do they feel they need to be armed?".  Do they feel threatened or are the intending violence on innocents?

One wonders if the local young thai gangs are also armed.

Possible that a rival gang decided the best way to neutralise them was to arrange a huge gang war then call the cops on them.

"Cambodian, Burmese and Karen ethnic origin". So Karens are so widespread that now they're their own ethnicity?

Do you no know what ethnicity is?
