Singapore-based budget airline Jetstar Asia will close down at the end of July, its Australian owner Qantas has announced. 

The low-cost carrier has struggled with rising supplier costs, high airport fees and increased competition from other airlines in the region. 

Qantas says the closure will provide it with A$500m ($325.9m; £241.4m) to invest towards renewing its fleet of aircraft, adding that it will redeploy 13 planes for routes across Australia and New Zealand.

The closure of Jetstar Asia will not impact its Australia-based Jetstar Airways operations, nor those of Jetstar Japan, according to a statement from Qantas.

"We have seen some of Jetstar Asia's supplier costs increase by up to 200 per cent, which has materially changed its cost base," said Qantas Group Chief Executive Vanessa Hudson in the statement. 

The discount airline, which has operated flights for over 20 years, is set to make a A$35m loss this financial year.

EDIT : Jetstar Airways will continue to fly from Australia into Asia including to all its popular destinations across Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and South Korea.

Just about booked em last night. 

Wonder what happens to all the folk that have purchased tickets for future flights.. 

There are not many options other than jetstar for eg Melb to BKK return.

Yes I jumped the gun.. 

Subsequently realize it's only certain routes as indicated in article I attached. 

The closure should not affect anyone traveling from Thailand, who is not connecting through Singapore. . As mentioned above, the closure is in respect to the Singapore flights.  The closure of Jetstar Asia does not affect flights operated by Jetstar Airways or Jetstar Japan. Jetstar Airways will still have flights between Australia and Southeast Asia. The Melbourne  and Brisbane routes  will still operate.

As per  Jetstar;

-Airline will offer the option of a full cash refund if booked through the airline

- Customers who booked through a travel agent or another airline should contact them instead of Jetstar Asia.

- Some customers may be offered seats on an alternative flight offered by Qantas-owned airlines, depending on what is available.
