When will the high speed trains come from Bangkok to Hua hin. Today we have in Hua hin a monstrous railway station, but still the old stinky diesel trains.

I like the old stinky diesel trains

Well, define "rapid" then.

The Chinese want this train by all means and started in 2014 with the Lao part of the intra-asian rail link, predicting opening the Kunming-Vientiane stretch on 2 December 2021. It took them solid seven years, countless tunnels and bridges as the train follows pretty much the straight ruler concept and you know what? The train was up and running on 2 December 2021. The segment is 422kms long, takes three hours from the Lao/China border. When they started, Prayuth and Prawit had couped themselves into power already.

All the while, in Thailand, they are still talking about the colour of the interior seat colour and other fundamentally important things. While the Chinese started ten years ago and finished 3 ½ years ago with a much more challenging topography ..... matters remain foggy in Thailand. Albeit longer but topographically most likely a walk in the park compared to what the Chinese achieved in Laos!
