In a chaotic turn of events in Pattaya, a night of drinking between acquaintances spiraled into violence when a 63-year-old man allegedly struck a disabled former soldier with a bottle. The incident, which unfolded yesterday near Soi Nong Samo 14, left 41-year-old Suradet Chaichanaklang with a head injury.

The altercation erupted around 5 pm when rescue workers from Sawang Boriboon Pattaya responded to reports of a brewing conflict among three middle-aged men. Upon arrival, they found Suradet, a wheelchair-using veteran, bleeding from a significant head wound, with his concerned girlfriend attending to him as medics provided first aid.

The alleged offender, Noi Thapwan, was quickly apprehended by authorities. Noi appeared indifferent to the severity of his actions, claiming the dispute originated over dinner preparations. "He was being annoying. I cooked for him, but he kept acting up. He pretends he can’t walk, but I told him he can walk like anyone else. When he came at me, I grabbed a bottle and smashed his head," Noi stated.

However, Suradet offered a starkly contrasting account. "I didn’t even get a chance to say anything. I just saw the bottle coming down on my head," he recounted.

At the scene, police recovered a bottle of strong 40-proof white liquor, indicative of the significant alcohol consumption involved. The discrepancies and confusion in the statements provided by those involved suggest heavy intoxication played a central role.

Initially, Suradet declined hospital care, concerned for his girlfriend’s well-being, but police eventually convinced him to accept medical attention for his injuries.

Noi is now facing assault charges as police continue their investigation into the incident. The case highlights the potential for minor disagreements to escalate when alcohol is involved, with authorities urging the public to drink responsibly and seek non-violent means of conflict resolution.
