The 787's have been in service for almost 14 years, this is the first actual crash of one! No Fatal Crashes Until 2025: Prior to the Air India crash, the 787 had no fatal accidents in nearly 5 mi

  • Really? Compared to Boeing's recent history it's not even close which company has been the safest. No contest.

Possible.

It just looks like a perfectly good aircraft glided into the ground.

Really strange that the pilot called Mayday only once then silence.

Throat cut by Pakistani terrorists  a massive electromagnetic attack taking out all systems. Trial of Chinese tech? All speculation of course.

Maybe they were just extremely busy in the cockpit.

No idea. But really strange to call Mayday 600 feet in the air just after take off.

Could be many reasons.

Yes ,  I've noted that from your posts over the years.

Seems like the engines cut out

Hopefully the black boxes will give some insights to the tragedy.

Yes, looked like a glider. fuel issue ?

Contaminated fuel wouldn't cut out immediately like that .

Could be they lifted the wing flaps up instead of lifting the wheels up ?

For God's sake, don't be daft.  The plane lost thrust and bellied into the ground and erupted into a massive fireball.

My speculation: pilot error. Wrong thrust and runway required calculation, resulting in not gaining enough speed to climb.

Todays scheduled Gatwick arrivals 😞

Just watched an interview on the news with a former pilot and he said the flaps were not in take-off position, and that the plane could never have had a successful take-off and descent with the flaps in that position.

He also mentioned that if they had tried to take off without those flaps extended they would have had plenty of system warnings.

Not so sure about that.

But gear was down.

Seen a report on the pprune website, the pilot took off from an intersection and not the full length, so the take off distance was just under 1900m  not a lot for a B787 that would have a lot of fuel for a flight to uk

That is what this Flight Tracker image seems to show.

I would be astonished if that were the case. What on Earth were the ATC guys thinking of, releasing the flight for take off from that position?

You don't think perhaps they were busy?? You want them to be having a conversation with ATC when they are desperately trying to save their lives and those of all on board (and on the ground)? They are trained to concentrate on flying before communication - that is the last priority in an emergency.

What the hell are you on about with throat slitting, electromagnetic attacks and Chinese nonsense? Have some respect and get a grip of yourself.

There were 53 British, 7 Portuguese, 1 Canadian. Rest are Indians.

For those wondering.

According to Flightradar24.com, the plane used the full lenght of the runway. It went to the end (or beginning however you want to call it) and started from there.

625 feet was as high as it got. It sure seems both engines failed but this seems incredible. Something catastrophic has happened not long after PNR or rotation. This bird just stopped going up.
