The Supreme Court's Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has launched an inquiry into former PM Thaksin Shinawatra’s extended stay at the Police General Hospital.

Thaksin, who didn’t spend any prison time after his conviction, is facing doubts over whether the Department of Corrections enforced his jail sentence effectively. This inquiry, centred on his controversial six-month hospital stay, threatens potential ramifications for the Pheu Thai Party.

Despite receiving an extra month to explain his stay, Thaksin's political moves suggest an active agenda, raising questions about his claimed medical needs.

Public Health Minister Somsak Thepsutin chose not to support the Medical Council of Thailand (MCT)'s suspension of two doctors for their role in transferring Thaksin to a premium ward. Their actions, however, could lead to a deeper investigation as the MCT affirmed their decision.

Analysts suggest the inquiry might not lead to an immediate decision but anticipate clues on the case duration and possible implications for individuals involved.

The case holds significance due to Thaksin's influence within Pheu Thai, as political activist Thida Thavornseth noted, and could affect the political landscape depending on the court's findings.

Jade Donavanik and Olarn Thinbangtieo, legal experts, outline two potential outcomes: either Thaksin is deemed to have served his time, or a revelation of collusion ensues, mandating jail time.

This scenario could lead to the revival of Thaksin's original eight-year sentence if his clemency application is found ineligible due to discrepancies in sentence execution.

The inquiry focuses on the adherence to sentencing rules and Thaksin’s health claims. As the court evaluates these factors, its findings will crucially influence Thaksin’s future and the ruling political party’s stance.

surprised he didn't arrive in a wheelchair lol

With a neck brace on.

I'm almost surprised the Medical Council of Thailand upheld its decision to suspend or discipline several doctors after the Health Minister opposed it. A previous article said that they'd need a (large) majority of the members of that Council to vote against the Minister in order to over-rule him and maintain their decision.

Got to think they know enough about what really went on to know the truth will come out eventually no matter what they do.

But the courts have to say "enough is enough" and start the trial NOW instead of continuously putting it off. Show the people that you are serious instead of making it look like you are giving the criminals more time to "influence" their way out of it.

It will be very interesting to see what happens if it looks like things are going against Thaksin. He's tried to leave the country a couple times since he was "freed" and been denied each time.

Got to think if it looks like he might end up going back to prison (lol) he will somehow wake up back in Dubai all of a sudden. Wouldn't bode well for his sister's return either.

He's a puppet just like Paetongtarn... I hope the supreme court do the right thing this time.

Everybody knows his six months stay in the hospital for what she did not have to pay a penny was all a shame they’re gonna put the doctors slap their hands or take away their license but the main corporate is gonna walk free if I were the police I’d find out where he parks his $65 million jet and lock it up so I won’t be able to make a hasty departure when things go south or if they even go south Then again he is the true Don of Thailand TIT
