One poster said something along the lines of the Spanish should accept it because tourists prop up the Spanish economy.

Much like that woman claimed she propped up the local economy in Thailand.

So I jokingly suggested that they  should get together. 
It would not have mattered if she was Israeli, British or an Eskimo.

 

That you and Fred wanted to turn it into an argument and that the joke went completely over both your heads just shows you are only here to argue.

The Spanish who 'don't' directly benefit from tourism are annoyed with property prices and rents that are pushed sky high by other Europeans buying 'holiday' homes and airbnb type properties. Can't blame them. Happens in many other places too, but Spain is particularlry bad for pricing locals out of the markets, given its popularity and freedom of movement for others in the EU - especially northerners.
