You obviously didn't live in a north England town 80 years ago.

It was the norm for the husband to hand over his weekly pay packet. The wife would hand a small amount back so he could go out for a beer.

This happens in Japan as well

It was the same in North London where I grew up 65 years ago, the "old man" dropped his pay packet on the kitchen table and Mum sorted out the family finances.

Same around the world smart wives used to do this.

That certainly not what's needed for me to feel like a man, but my woman and I enjoy role playing and she enjoys manifesting the dignity within femininity, and I enjoy playing the role of the provider, so it comes naturally for me to pay for stuff, that combined with the fact that I love carrying cash, it's just a very natural role for us.

It is a difference when you have a household, animals, cooking home and a small farm.

I can't be bothered to go with wife everywhere to pay bills, shopping and dealing with everything I do not need to do.

I literally hate shopping, but when I go, I know what I need, and there is one loop, finding what we gonna have, and out.

Going with wife? Every carrot carefully inspected, looking, checking prices, and zzzzzzzzz

Shopping clothes? I walk past something that looks OK, I grab my sizes, I pay. Done

She goes to eat at these BBQ places? I prefer hot chicken wings, that's it.

We'll I guess you get where I want to go.

A perfect good life is a happy wife, therefor I stay away, and when first she have access to everything I transfer, she does a he'll of a good job saving us money to.

I still driving both the car and the motorbikes. Never passenger if that makes it better. But she is not a pillon if we bring both bikes, she drives herself.

Never mind this. What amazes me is when I pay at a restaurant, the wait staff ALWAYS give the change back to my wife. Or if she isn’t there, back to my daughter!

Its like I don’t even exist, let alone being the one that paid.

'why does the wife pay at the counter' - jesus wept, why on earth do you need this answering? has it been playing on your mind? probably the most stupid question/thread i've seen on here so far.

why should i stand and possibly wait at a counter when my wife is more than happy to. with regards to money, when you're married and have children, the money you earn yourself is not yours, it becomes the family's money, so it's irrelvant who pays at the counter really. well that's the way i see it anyway, anyone thinking otherwise does not deserve a family

I often see this thing when i am in thailand. I am talking about thai couples, married or just boyfriend and girlfriend. Why is always the thai women that pays and not the thai man? I read some thai stories online, the thai husband gets a salary but he must give it all to his wife, so she pay everything but with his husband's money 🤨😆. I feel like: you gotta be kidding me lol

555 yes, traveling with my Thai significant other at the time, we noticed a welding shop where the man was working and the woman wore a money belt. My girl explains what you have stated. The man provides the economic security but the woman controls the spending budget. My reply was, fortunately, for me, you are with a western Farang who controls his own money.

Unfortunately my wife is only too happy to tip her countrymen if she has my money to do it with. I on the other hand am not a big believer in tipping.

Fortunately, there is now such a thing as QR codes!

Not my experience.  My wife has always 'slipped' me the money to pay if I didn't have enough in my wallet.

My wife is pretty much the same...  20-50 baht, something for the server.  Not based on the price of the meal.

Not sure that I follow you. Personally I don’t usually eat at restaurants if I don’t have the money to pay. 🤷

"""its not my money, simply because it goes to my bank account first.  It's 'our' money.  Same as 'our' house........and etc"""

I give my Thai wife 5000bt personal spending money monthly.

When paying cash ( taxi, grocery, stores and etc) I hand the cash to her - she speaks Thai 100% so if any problems, she take care of them - 90% of the time she hands back the change if any.  Works for me!

We keep a stash, in one of the pillows, ~100k, and when our wallets are low, we take 5k out at a time.  Our monthly living expense is amazingly low, ~20k, but Greenhouse and non essentials, hobbies takes a bit.  Stash actually lasts a really long time.

We're O&A now, and think I took 50k with me, but low budget travelers.  Only extra expense, other the simply eating, is ~1000 a night for hotels.   Usually out for about a week +/-, and most of the money is for JIC.

She usually pays for everything, for same reason, Thai/Thai transactions since I'm not fluent.   Plus I'll tip, and she usually does not :cheesy:

Once I got a stash of smaller notes & coins, for small vendors, I don't want any change.  She needs small change anyway to pay her worker around the garden.
