MAGA Warned Trump on Iran. Now He’s In An Impossible Position

The president ran on ending forever wars. But Israel’s Thursday night strike on Iran could force his hand

06/13/2025

President Donald Trump campaigned on ending what his base has long derided as U.S. foreign adventurism, leading the rebellion against an establishment that long favored international interventions. Now some of his most vocal supporters fear Israel — and possibly Trump himself — may have trampled his ability to make good on that promise.

The Jewish nation’s decision to conduct a pre-emptive strike on Tehran’s nuclear facilities on Thursday night threatens to draw the United States into a Middle East conflict — and split the MAGA coalition that catapulted Trump back into the Oval Office.

While administration officials say the U.S. played no part in the offensive, it was unclear as of Thursday night whether the U.S. will be able to actually stay on the sidelines. Trump — who Friday morning reiterated U.S. support for Israel and even praised the strike, less than a day after asking Israel to stand -down —will almost certainly feel compelled to help defend Israel against counter-attacks by Iran. I respect Dave Smith. He is a smart guy and speaks well. I can agree or disagree with his stances on particular issues, but he is wrong on this one.  Which is fine, the Republican Party is a big tent, and does not demand doctrinaire lockstep agreement with every policy. There is room for dissent and disagreement.

Were you able to post that without gagging? EVERY time someone voices an opinion the mad king doesn't like, they are threatened emphatically with being "primaried."

You know better than that, or at least I thought you did.

These days there's not a dime's worth of difference between Jackson Hinkle and Tucker Carlson. Both mouthpieces for Iran.

Don't you have a life outside Trump talk?

Hello,

Can the person in charge of Susan go and pick her up? She's wandered off again.

So -- time for a Signal chat?

Starting any minute now, "OPSEC" is on it!

Yes there is room for dissent in the House. But Trump, as President of the United States of America and their Commander-in-Chief doesn't brook dissent or disagreement. He sees this as a personal slight against his laws and edicts.

What is your claim based on?

Trump does not seem to hold a grudge. Look at what his vice president said about him a few years ago.

Yep, can clearly see a MAGA split over this.

Top MAGA pollster warns Republicans will lose the majority for ‘the next decade’ if Trump gets involved in Israel-Iran

"A top MAGA pollster has warned that the Republicans may lose the majority in Congress “for the next decade” if President Donald Trump gets the U.S. more closely embroiled in the Israel-Iran conflict.

Big Data Poll Director Rich Baris took to X on Monday to argue that “Starting new foreign wars never helps a presidency. But it sure as Hell can end one, especially one predicated on not starting new wars overseas when we've been invaded and neglected at home.”"
