In a significant development for Pasig City, Mayor Vico Sotto has announced the approval of the site plan for the Nagpayong Civic Complex, a transformative project set to rise in Barangay Pinagbuhatan. This initiative aims to bolster the community’s access to essential health and educational resources by constructing a mini-hospital, a 12-story public school, and numerous other facilities.

The complex will be situated on a 2.6-hectare lot owned by the local government. A cornerstone of this development is the Nagpayong Primary Care Center, a 16-bed infirmary designed to function like a mini-hospital. The project has already received a Permit to Construct and has garnered positive feedback from the Department of Health (DOH), demonstrating strong backing from health authorities.

Education will receive a considerable boost with the addition of a 12-story school building, made possible through funding from the national government. The project is a collaborative effort led by Representative Roman Romulo, in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). While plans are afoot for a second school building, the immediate focus is on completing this flagship structure first.

“Efforts are underway to begin construction of more facilities within this term. However, our immediate commitment is to the initial buildings, alongside establishing a police substation,” Sotto stated, emphasising the importance of delivering on these promises.

The comprehensive site plan also includes provisions for a police substation, a fire substation, a public garden or park, an evacuation area, and a multipurpose facility. These elements are designed to enhance safety, leisure, and emergency preparedness for the community.

A critical component of the complex will be the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) compound, which will house a Special Drug Education Centre (SDEC) and a Bahay Kanlungan extension. These facilities are intended to provide complementary social welfare and rehabilitation services, further strengthening community support and resilience.

Progress on the project had faced delays due to various obstacles, particularly land and rights-of-way issues. Mayor Sotto recounted challenges such as interference from a syndicate demanding fees for “membership” and “rights,” which hampered initial progress. However, these issues have now been addressed, allowing the project to move forward.

With these developments, the Nagpayong Civic Complex represents a major step in improving the quality of life for Pasig’s residents, providing critical infrastructure that supports both health and education needs. The city looks forward to seeing these facilities come to fruition, promising a brighter future for the community.
