Rangers from Thap Lan National Park successfully redirected a herd of around 50 wild elephants back into the forest late Monday night. The elephants, drawn to village farms on the park's edge, posed a threat to local crops.

The operation, initiated at about 9.40pm, involved rangers from Thap Lan’s zone 4 and volunteers from the Saeng Sang Elephant Conservation Club. Prompted by local leaders' reports, they sprang into action as the elephants moved toward crops near the park boundary.

Utilising drones with thermal cameras, the team located the herd and executed a coordinated effort to guide them back. By flying drones to steer the direction and using flashlights and shouting, the rangers effectively encouraged the elephants to return to the park.

The operation, lasting over an hour, concluded successfully with all elephants safely back within park limits.

Park officials assured continued patrolling of the forest edge, particularly near harvest-ready areas, to prevent further elephant incursions and protect local agriculture until the situation stabilises.

Thank you for the explanatory text as the photograph was a bit unhelpful especially compared to the recent story of the elephant in the grocery shop.
