A Bangkok-Samui passenger bus veered off Asia Highway 41 in Chumphon province early this morning, June 23, injuring several passengers, with two in critical condition. The incident, occurring at 2:50 am, also involved a damaged pickup truck nearby, leading to an ongoing police investigation.

Police Lieutenant Kreangchai Chumkaew received reports of the accident in Mueang Sawi district. Emergency services and Sawi Hospital staff promptly arrived at the scene where the overturned grey-and-blue bus, registered in Bangkok, was found in a roadside ditch.

The bus, carrying 32 people including two drivers, an attendant, and 29 passengers, sustained significant damage. Nine passengers were injured, with seven sustaining minor injuries, while two are in critical condition. They were swiftly transported to Sawi Hospital. The remaining 20 uninjured passengers continued their journey later that night.

Nearby, a white Ford pickup truck, registered in Chumphon, showed signs of damage. The truck's driver, 28-year-old Pipat, and his passenger, 25-year-old Krongkaew, escaped unharmed.

The bus drivers, 53-year-old Sameur and 60-year-old Paisan, along with 34-year-old attendant Cholticha, were identified at the site.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Police are examining whether the bus and pickup truck were involved in a collision or related incident. Forensic teams are expected to inspect both vehicles to uncover any evidence of a crash.

Authorities continue to investigate as the community awaits further details on this alarming event.
