DAB+ Radio. Range?

As FM Radio reception is on the way out, I bought a DAB+ Radio. Tested it with a DAB+ Radio from my neighbor. Worked fine.

The one I bought works only near a window. 2 meters away from the window it says "no signal".

What are the "technical requirements" for a DAB+ Radio so that it will work away from the nearest window?

Where in Thailand are you and which DAB radio did you buy ?

I tried to receive DAB broadcasts in Pattaya /Jomtien area with a RTLsdr  dongle  but had no success at all...I'm not even sure if they have DAB transmissions here ( from the Pattaya transmitter) and seem to been in a bit of a radio blind spot as even FM radio is quite bad.

Don't know about Thailand as I live in the middle of Europe.

In my case: The radio I bought was "defect" to begin with. Returned it to the store and got another brand. Works 100%.

It pays to stay away from "bargains". Better to buy a product in the "mid-price-range".

I would visit a "electronic store" near you and ask about the local circumstances.

I never thought that I would have to return to this subject again. At first, the 2nd radio I bought seemed to work OK, but on closer examination, it "stumbled", words/sound getting lost for a second, this happening 3 to 4 times per minute. To eliminate this problem, I had to move the radio close to a window.

DAB was advertised as "the future of hearing Radio". (Only if you are near a window????). Needless to say I miss my old fashioned FM Radio days where I could listen to the Radio in the Toilet, 6 meters away from the nearest window.

Well, yes as we know not all "progress" is good "progress"

digital is either on or not on  0 or 1  so a good signal is needed to get anything at all,   not so with an analogue signal ..also they try to squeeze too many channels into the available bandwidth which often results in lower fidelity than could be obtained with a traditional FM signal (money saving)

Yes a digital signal can give very good vastly superior picture/audio  but it needs the bandwidth and a clean signal  to produce anything.

Just last night I wanted to watch the terrestrial digital TV from the Pattaya transmitter ...but no signal ( 12 km's away)

in this case I think this local transmitter has a quite regular  "problem" and the remaining FM signals from the same transmitter also went down too

(didn't check)

In the "analogue" days  I could actually get a signal from the Bangkok transmitter (160 Km's away) a bit snowy but watchable.

You may be in a radio "dead spot"  so require a better antenna than is usually provided..not so convenient for the toilet and bathroom....but "progress" !!!!
