In a curious spectacle, a green snake was spotted slithering away from a Nakhon Ratchasima home, its belly conspicuously swollen after ingesting a gecko whole.

The incident, captured in a video by local resident Pira Pitaktrakul, unfolded around 8:30 am yesterday. Pira posted the recording on Facebook, where it quickly caught the attention of the online community. The footage shows the one-metre-long reptile climbing a bathroom wall, struggling with its new, rotund shape. The snake was attempting to escape through an old air conditioning pipe hole, two metres above the ground.

Pira, a 53-year-old who lives in a commercial building in the Chae subdistrict, explained that he encountered the reptilian drama just as he was about to enter the bathroom. The sight of the green snake wrestling its distended belly along the wall was too astonishing to ignore, prompting him to document the unusual scene.

The snake’s hefty meal appeared to be a gecko that had made its home behind a washing machine. Pira noted that he had watched the gecko grow over time, estimating its size to be around seven inches before it was devoured.

Non-venomous and generally not considered dangerous, the green snake took over five minutes to manoeuvre through the wall hole and make its escape. Its swollen form made the task notably challenging.

After Pira shared the video online, it amassed widespread attention. Intriguingly, the building’s number, 78, became a topic of interest for many viewers, who began contemplating its potential as a lucky number for their lottery bets.

This peculiar episode reminds us of nature's surprises lurking in the most unexpected places, even in our own backyards.
