Politics Parliament Showdown Looms as Bhumjaithai Seeks to Oust PM

The Bhumjaithai Party is calling for a no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her ministers.

 

They've urged opposition partners to support their motion once parliament reconvenes on 3rd July. This bold move follows a party meeting where 69 MPs unanimously decided to initiate censure proceedings.

 

The catalyst for this dramatic turn is a leaked conversation between Paetongtarn and Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen.

 

Party spokesperson Nan Boonthida Somchai cited trust issues as the driving force behind the decision. To initiate the debate, support from one-fifth of the MPs is needed, as per Section 151 of the Constitution.

 

With 495 MPs in the House, 233 belong to opposition parties, including 69 from Bhumjaithai. Others include the People’s Party with 142 MPs, the Palang Pracharath Party with 20 MPs, and one MP each from the Thai Sang Thai and Fair parties.

 

Once the motion is submitted, the Constitution restricts the Prime Minister from dissolving parliament unless the opposition backs down.

 

Bhumjaithai recently exited Paetongtarn's coalition government, citing political rifts and loss of trust. A key issue was the Interior Ministry portfolio, with disputes over its control leading to friction.

 

The leaked talk with Cambodia's Senate President has only added fuel to the fire, escalating tensions and motivating Bhumjaithai to pursue this parliamentary challenge.

 

As this political showdown looms, much hangs in the balance. The outcome could shift the dynamics of power and governance in Thailand.

 

Whether the no-confidence motion gains traction or not, it's clear that Bhumjaithai’s actions have sent ripples across the political landscape.

we all know which party won the last election, Thai politics is a joke on the world stage rigged against the popular vote and the people - it really is a shambles and if the wheels come of the military are always there to step in

Well, while I certainly agree on that point, my fear is "what's next"? Anutin is equally power-horny like a small poodle and would also throw anybody in his way under the bus. Most of these MPs are there for the money and little interest in running the country, as long as the uneducated electorate is controlled with 500 Baht/vote against being able to do afterwards, what they want. 

What has been going on over the last few months has absolutely nothing to do in steering Thailand through murky waters, looking professionally into how to tackle economy, tourism and investment. This here is nothing but a tent of seriously professional circus clowns. 

Paetongtarn with zero experience fell nose forward into a nasty trap by Hun Sen - a despicable Khmer Rouge relict who should have been locked away while throwing away the keys. The MP is puppet mastered by her father who already sacrificed his own sister for pure personal power gain and maintenance. 

So is this, what Thailand is in 2025; nothing learnt since 1932? Seriously?

I think many Thai voters are hoping and praying that this is the end of the road for the Shin regime if I’m honest the people deserve a more compassionate and understanding government it’s time to get rid of the dinosaurs who constantly have control to suit their own means and not those of the public

Absolutely, replace him with Newin Chidlob, who is absolutely squeaky clean, presents an impenetrable front to corrupt practices, and absolutely has no ambitions in the line of family or clan political dynasties!

Whatever the outcome of a no-confidence vote to determine whether Shinawatra remains PM or replaced in a national election, this process by an elected part of Parliament is democratic versus her ouster by an unelected Constitutional Court.  I hope Shinawatra participates in this process.

On the surface I wonder give them benefit of the doubt what is the point of having election it seems to be nothing but a show and waste of money.

Time and time again they have elections nation, province, district for what!  Money is spent, roads are clogged signs, vehicles that blast their message on loud speaker elections after results it starts all over again as if there wasn't.

One gets ousted just for breathing instead of a real election, winner actual serves a full term whatever that is instead I don't like you!  You don't do as I say!  All fails, a COUP!🤣🤑
