Are washer dryer combinations good?

I'm currently looking for a clothes washing solution for my workplace. 

It's either washing machine (front loader) and dryer separately or one of these combined machines.

 

Tbh, can't beat the value of these combinations. TCL brand combination selling currently on Lazada for 11k THB. 

 

A separate solution with two machines would be over 16k THB up to 20k THB. 

 

So my question, are these washer dryer combinations good, particularly TCL brand. Anyone using it home?

No experience with TCL brand but we had an integrated AEG washer and dryer for more than 16 years, imported from Europe. It worked flawlessly until the electronic panel had to be replaced but could not find a spare.

You just need to pay attention to the fact that it handles a smaller load for the drying cycle, usually 4 or 5 kilos instead of 8 kilos for the washing cycle. 
Nowadays technology has changed, using the condenser process.

Beware of hard water; before being connected to PWA we were on a well and had to install a water softening installation.

11k sounds pretty cheap, cheap enough to be suspect. 

 

The big benefit with the combination is that they take up half the space. 

 

The big benefit of having separate units is that if you have multiple loads, it takes almost half the time.

There are a lot of variables in washers and dryers that affect the cost significantly.

11k is "sales" promotion. The retail price is around 20k. 

 

If we should decide to buy separate units, we put them on a tower frame

You should not need a frame, many are stackable, I know our last two sets were.

Besure to pick 7200 rpm rather than 5400. The clothes are much drier when done. You won't use the dryer much except in the rainy season when you don't want that sour small. Better to hand them in the sun.

I like using a drier, and use it for almost everything. 

 

All things the same, a higher RPM spin cycle dries clothes better, but the diameter of the drum is significant as well. A large diameter drum spinning at the same RPM as a small diameter drum extracts water much more effectively. 

 

As the capacity of the washer goes up, the drum gets bigger, and may extract just as well or better than a small drum spinning faster.

We can't dry the company clothing outside due to hygienic issues

My only experience of TCL was with a TV from Lazada - it was not good and I returned it.

The brand I am happy with is Hisense - I have two TVs and two aircon - well priced and I can't fault them.

IMO - No... the combos are not good unless you have space limitations... 

But there are also other facts - if you live alone, then it maybe simpler to run through a 'wash-dry' cycle... 

 

However, if you are a family, you may prefer to wash one load followed by another, at which time you can also use the drier at the same time for the first load.

 

For this reason, we've always gone for separate solution - but have had the space, either 'stacking' (one on the other) or side by side.

Clothes dry slower outside and can get musty in the wet season if they take too long to dry.

Then if in the city theres the pollution issue, or if in Chiang Mai the smog season issue.

Then there is dust, insects, geckos etc.

 

I think the sensible balance is - in urban area's a drier is better. In rural area's outside drying is better.

Maybe you had a bad model. I'm using TCL TV for more than four years. Hardcore use on weekends sometimes non stop. Still going strong

It was the quality of the picture, especially when playing from external sources, so much so that I used the external source to test the subsequent TVs I looked at.

If you will need to do multiple loads daily, buy them separate.

I have two of the TCL model you mention, one in Chiang Rai, the other in Chiang Mai.

 

It takes a long time to dry clothes and if you're only going to use the dryer function occasionally, it's fine.

 

 

Last month we bought an LG Dual inverter, heat pump dryer which my maid uses every day.  It's much cheaper to run and dries a lot quicker, so now in Chiang Rai we've stopped using the dryer function.

 

We also have lots of TCL aircons and 2 TCL TV's all excellent.  I did have a TCL TV in Pattaya about 17 years ago, it was a disaster, but today they are an excellent brand.

And another nice thing about the heat-pump dryer is that you do not have to exhaust the heat to the outside, they take longer than a conventional dryer, but being able to install them away from an exterior wall is great. 

 

Much quieter as well.

Do NOT buy a washer/dryer combo!

I had one once and the drying result was deplorable. The machine has to expunge itself and the load of all moisture before it can even start to dry the load. This not only costs money but also takes a long time to effect a properly dried load.

My advice: Either buy separate machines, or dry outside.

Recently replaced an Electrolux washer with a a Hisense Washer Dryer WD3Q8543BW

I don't actually use or need the dryer, however the price at ฿9,540, was ฿50 short of the price I'd paid less than 5 years earlier for the Electrolux washer. So having the option of availability to dry something is a bonus without additional cost. (excepting the electricity used)

 

Excellent machine and I'm very happy, with such features as delayed ending to washing cycles, means that I can chuck a load in the machine before heading to bed, then when I get up in the morning the machine is only just finishing it's final spin. No damp clothes sitting in a machine for 5 hours before being unloaded.

I currently have a Hisense washer/dryer. Great price-performance and be honest, those machines are pretty much alike and probably come from the same factory.

Those are the rotation speeds for Hard Disk Drives. 

A standard dryer spins at 8 - 1400 rpm. high speed can be 28-3200

and a compact/portable spins at 12-3000 rpm. (ChatGPT)

Not what's listed on the tag at HomePro. But I bet you're right--I do know these to be hard disk speeds! Sheesh, eh! Don't think it's my mistake...
