Military Thai Air Force Ready to Defend Nation in 5 Minutes

The Thai Air Force Commander assures the nation of rapid response capabilities, ready to defend sovereignty within five minutes.

 

Air Chief Marshal Phanpakdee Patthanakul, Commander of the Royal Thai Air Force, addressed preparations for potential border incidents with Cambodia.

 

He confirmed that the Air Force is on standard alert, with aircraft ready to launch defensive operations within five minutes if a conflict arises.

 

This comes after Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet offered bonuses for shooting down Thai aircraft. Phanpakdee emphasised that Thailand has no aggressive intentions, stressing that preparedness is solely for national defence.

 

He urged the public to trust in the military's efficiency and reiterated that the armed forces are thoroughly equipped to protect the nation's sovereignty without provoking others.

What good is being ready in 5 minutes when it takes a Thai jet 30 minutes to get to the border to investigate a plane flying there? 

The last 2 times this happened it took them 30 minute to get to that area and by then the planes were gone.

The US revolution had the Minutemen.  They were given that name because when called to orders they'd say "wait a minute."

 

 

The above is not true, but LOS should be given their own version of this with their 5-minute reaction time.

Back in the 1960s the QRA alert was for 2 aircraft fully fuelled and armed, on the QRA pan 24/7/365. That meant 2 aircrew and 1 ground crew team per 8 hour shift. Highly expensive in manpower and airframe time, as most of the time they were never called out.

 

The nearest Thai airbase to the Myanmar border is at Nakhon Sawan, and is less than 100km away. I estimate that as about 20 minutes from the scramble call out. That assumes of course that there is 24/7/365 radar cover along all the Myanmar border.

 

5 minutes is a tad optimistic for an alert status, especially as Thailand is not officially at war with anyone, but possible sometimes.

Good job the Yanks are not Scrambled over New York. The last time they did they flew in the opposite direction to an inbound plane. They were not even Armed to shoot down anything in-coming lol.
