Politics Paetongtarn in Turmoil: Thai PM's Popularity Nosedives in Poll

In a dramatic shift, Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra faces a startling decline in popularity according to the latest opinion survey by the National Institute of Development Administration.

 

Conducted nationwide from June 19 to 25, this quarterly poll engaged 2,000 respondents, revealing a significant preference for opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut as the ideal candidate for prime minister.

 

Poll results showed:

 

Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut (People's Party)

Support: 31.48%
Favoured for modern ideas and a bold stance.

No Suitable Candidate

Preference: 19.88%

Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha (Privy Councillor, Former PM)

Support: 12.72%
Praised for honesty and restoring order.

Anutin Charnvirakul (Bhumjaithai Party)

Support: 9.64%

Paetongtarn Shinawatra (Pheu Thai Party)

Support: 9.20%

The decline in support for Paetongtarn is further exacerbated by a recent controversy involving a leaked phone conversation with Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen. This scandal has potentially affected public perception, contributing to her dwindling support.

 

As for political party preferences:

 

People’s Party

Preference: 46.08%

United Thai Nation Party (UTN)

Preference: 13.24%

Pheu Thai Party

Preference: 11.52%

Bhumjaithai Party

Preference: 9.76%

No Favoured Party

Preference: 7.72%

These results point to a challenging political landscape for Paetongtarn, with declining approval rates reflecting a demand for change among the Thai electorate.

 

With Natthaphong and his party surging ahead, the political future of Thailand seems primed for potential realignment.

The PM made her bed and now she has to sleep in it. She listened and did what daddy told her. Once she got put in as the PM she should have done what she thought was right and taken control of her office rather than do what daddy told her. Now it will all come to bite her in the butt. If there is not a coup then surely there will be a new leadership before the end of the year. 

I just hope the senate inquiry and the vote that is coming that will determine whether to suspend her duties as PM  comes before they vote on the bill for trillions of baht that her daddy seems to be outspoken about and telling her to maintain her position until that bill passes. Something very fishy about his insistence on this.

Not about told or not told. 

Issue is the young Thai PM  not capable learning on the job. 

 

Globally  Some young and inexperienced can learn and improve while on the job,  some cannot.

Sadly, you're probably right. The question is - when & if - will The People stand by The People's Party and take to the streets of ALL Thai cities in sufficient strength & endurance & cleverly led so a coup or other elites' tricks (law courts) come to nothing?

Let's face it she was only a spokesperson for Thaksin, how long did they really think she'd last when having to speak to higher authorities on her own

I don't think those support numbers are accurate. I don't think she was ever particularly popular, that family dynasty has run out of steam years ago, and though Thaksin may have done some things to help his people decades ago, he's turned into a rather toxic monster and appointing his daughter was just beyond the pale.

 

Thailand desperately needs a progressive leader like Pita, one that was duly elected and denied leadership by a very ignorant group of elites, and people who should not have the kind of power that they have.

Still one shin family member not yet sayin the PM's big chair, the son. He has lots of baggage, been involved in corruption and nepotism, collusion and whatever, thrown out of 2 Thai unis for cheating, and he's not all that right.

 

But I won't be surprised if Thaksin get's him into the PM's chair.
