    Noel who?

  • I'm guessing Noel Edmonds is more up your street.    I heard you two go way back.

  • How these two yobbos get the media coverage they do is beyond me. The press treat their reunion like it's the Beatles reborn, when IMO they have one barely memorable song.

The brothers come from Burnage; a largely council house estate area of South Manchester.  I know the area well and was once lined up for an apprenticeship at the local chain works.

Its a rough and ready sh1thole  I also worked there late, 90's I think ,  building a new Parrs wood school and a hotel on the site of the old one.   About a month before the hotel was finished it was vandalised and burnt to the ground

Exactly BKK again I will remind you 7 nights all sold out within an hour at Englands biggest stadium. Mame an Artist that could do that now.

Depeche Mode.

Some posters seem to have poor reading comprehension. The opening sentence of this thread's OP states his remarks were made BEFORE this year's Glastonbury Festival (my bold text),  This criticism wasn't specifically aimed at Bob Vylan's death chants.

Oasis legend Noel Gallagher has criticised the Glastonbury Festival, calling it “woke” and “preachy” in a candid podcast interview recorded ahead of this year’s event. Speaking with podcaster Matt Morgan, Gallagher expressed frustration with what he sees as increasing political posturing on the festival’s stages.

That interview was quite old, going back 12 months.  You can read the same quotes from Gallagher in the OP as in this article in The Sun, dated  July 4, 2024.

GASTO BLASTO   Noel Gallagher launches blistering attack on ‘woke’ Glastonbury and renews feud with rockstar frontman

NOEL Gallagher had a storming time at Glastonbury – but he couldn’t help taking aim at other punters.

The High Flying Birds frontman moaned that virtue-signalling has taken over the festival — with acts making statements about Palestine’s conflict with Israel and Banksy’s migrant dinghy protest during the Idles set.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/28973908/noel-gallagher-slams-glastonbury-woke/

This article from the Guardian,  also a year old, gives more background on the "wokeness" of Glastonbury:

Noel Gallagher says Glastonbury is ‘a bit woke now’ and criticises political musicians

https://www.theguardian.com/music/article/2024/jul/05/noel-gallagher-oasis-glastonbury-is-woke-political-musicians

It was more "wokeness" in general than support for Hamas that seemed to have pissed off Gallagher in that interview.  He opposed the politicizing of musical performances.  Several groups and artists at the 2024 Glastonbury Festival expressed support for Ham-  I mean Palestinians- including chants of "Free Palestine."  That didn't result in any major outcry from political or religious leaders.

Bobby Vylan  (Pascal Robinson-Foster)  got slammed because he led the crowd in death chants and gave an antisemitic tirade   His blatant antisemitism, not his support of Palestinians, resulted in all the condemnation.  It's unclear what opinion Noel Gallagher has on the Gaza conflict, although he has supported a charity that provides aid to Palestinian children.

Support for Palestinians is the rule, not the exception, in the U.K.  When this support, however misplaced and naive, turns into raw antisemitic attack, there still, thankfully, will be a sharp negative reaction from some influential voice.  However, Gallagher was NOT condemning antisemitism  in that old interview.

Adam Ant was originally punk rock, never Glam Rock, that was Gary Glitters era.

In all fairness Lennon & Macca have been the most succesful songwriters full stop. If you listen to Cigerettes and Alcohol by Oasis Noel stole the opening guitar Riff off Mark Bolans GET IT ON. The only band at the moment that can pack massive stadiums and sell out shows are Coldplay.

Id class Adam Ant along with the New Romantics like Spandau Ballet ABC and the Human league.

😂😂 Nice one! Oasis were never my bag, but laughable when the out of touch codgers on here do the ‘xxxx who?’ thing. Noel Coward would probably be more up his street.

They are a trappy pair, esp Liam, but Noel is bang on regards wokefying music. It’s bad enough in film and TV. These numpties should just play their set, stfu and move along. Don’t give more ammo to the fragile gen cry babies in the crowd.

Gallagher. An actual talented person. And  an environmentally  esponsible person who did the right thing by using mass transit to get to his show. He took the train, and did not make a fuss or grandstand about it.

You are dismissive because you disagree with his common sense.

Bob Vylan's  has latched on to jew hate to get some attention. It rode the BLM gimmick as far as it could, encouraging vandalism and anti English actions; Perhaps you liked Pascal Robinson-Foster words;  “give Churchill’s statue the rope and see if it floats … Yeah, let the bitch drown, got the gammons all feeling sick now, wipe my backside with a St George’s flag."

If someone said pull down Nelson Mandela's statue, the leftists would be screaming hate crime.

Kneecap come from Belfast and are the scum of scum, pushing Irish nationalist themes. They purport to be non sectarian, but really they are advocates of IRA intimidation. If a US  group named itself Lynching and called for the mass killing of afro american military personnel, they would be condemned. Howver, because kneecap only is targeting juden, it's ok.

Adam Ant was a novelty act and had no standing with actual musicians.

I'd class him as a talentless nutter. Who only enjoyed a bit of undeserved fame because he wore fancy dress and it was the early days of video and he was a novelty  but no musical ability whatsoever. I was no fan of the others you mentioned but they were in a different league than that idiot

he wasn't anything other than an extrovert flamboyant type who was a record company project, not a  musician by any  stretch of the imagination,  Same goes for the sex pistols  just 4 idiots manipulated by malcolm mclaren, not musicians at all,

I think somewhere Noel Gallagher once said Steve Cook pistols guitarist played a riff to remember on pretty Vacant. Liam formed Oasis, and was gigging before Noel joined Oasis he was a guitar Tech and Rodie at the time for another well known band called the Inspiral Carpets.

What really happened at Glastonbury

That is truly a misleading title.  It has virtually nothing to do with what happened at the music festival.  Only a few seconds of the video feature scenes from Glastonbury.  The rest is the usual Hamas- Al Jazeera hodgepodge of the IDF attacking terrorist targets in Gaza.

Basically, the narrator, a rapper called Lowkey (real name Kareem Dennis), is trying to justify Bobby Vylan's death chants as something positive.  His message is that members of the IDF deserve to die.

Dennis has a long history of using anti-Jewish slurs in his raps.

Great band IMO. One of the best debut albums of all time.

Slide Away, Bring it on down, Columbia (so good they named a country after it), Live Forever.

Marvellous.

Noel is a bit of a tool though.

There is no country named Columbia.

Yes - I wasn't actually being serious there 😃. Well spotted, have a banana.

What's your favourite Oasis song? Let me guess. "My Big Mouth"?

Showing your lack of knowledge there, old man. Noel is famously the clean living one. He's not his brother's keeper.

He's waiting for Mozart to make a comeback.

Thanks for updating me.

Like I said I slept through the 70s (and 80s - actually mostly as far as music is concerned from the 70s).

Gary Glitter - English convicted child sex offender and former glam rock singer-songwriter and musician - let's not go there.

Oasis are a joke,no more then a cover band.

Some people considered them to be as talented as the Beatles. You can research the rest yourself.

You mean they mightve had the same songwriting sven galis behind them as the Beatles?

Beatles were a Tavistock creation.  💯0 %

Ha ha that coming from a guy who's Country isn't bestowed for its contribution to music apart 2 Decent bands and 1 was born n bred in Scotland the other died in a Gimp suit in Bkk.

This quote is wheeled out every Glastonbury.  He said it about 5 years ago. trying to imply he's only just said it.

he's got  point, i went in the 1990s it was amazing, it just looks awful now, the music and people.

Oasis just played 2 nights in the Welsh International stadium sold out both nights Estimated 150,000 saw them thats just in 2 Nights.
