Two military rangers were injured on the morning of 5 July, in a bomb explosion in Ban Balate, Moo 4, Ba Go Sato Subdistrict, Ra-ngae District, Narathiwat Province.

At around 09:30 an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated targeting a patrol from Ranger Company 4516, causing injuries to two personnel. Authorities are continuing their investigation and will provide further updates.

The incident follows a related attack on 4 July in Narathiwat when insurgents detonated a bomb against a ranger’s car. The vehicle was carrying the ranger, his wife and their young son on official business in Ban Tase Tai, Moo 6, Paluru Subdistrict, Su-ngai Padi District. Four people suffered minor injuries including ringing in the ears and chest tightness. The injured were promptly taken to Su-ngai Padi Hospital for treatment.

Police investigation revealed the bomb was placed near the base of a utility pole alongside the road. Shrapnel from the blast damaged the side of the ranger’s grey sedan, notably the front right wheel.

One of the injured, Ranger Masit Yuso, reported that he was driving with family members to retrieve paperwork related to his son’s motorcycle. As they neared the location, unknown assailants concealed nearby detonated the device, which had been planted at the pole’s base. The explosion caused shrapnel to strike the vehicle and injure its occupants.

Authorities attribute the attacks to insurgent groups operating in the region. Security forces continue to heighten patrols and investigations to prevent further violence.
