A road crash in Ratchaburi province has left six people injured, one critically, after a speeding vehicle rear-ended a pickup truck transporting construction workers, causing it to overturn and crash into a roadside shop.

The incident occurred in the late morning on the inbound lanes of Phetkasem Road in Khok Mo Subdistrict, Mueang Ratchaburi District. Police Lieutenant Natthaphon Pienpitak from Mueang Ratchaburi Police Station responded to the emergency call and arrived at the scene with medical staff from Ratchaburi Hospital and volunteers from the Pathom Borommarachanusorn Foundation.

At the crash site, authorities found a bronze Toyota pickup truck, registration from Bangkok, overturned in a roadside ditch. The vehicle’s front and rear were damaged. Scattered around the scene were injured individuals who had been flung from the truck. Bystanders helped move them to safety while awaiting medical assistance.

Reports indicate that the injured included four foreign migrant workers and two Thai nationals. The driver of the pickup, 46-year-old Mr Arthit Siriwetch, sustained only minor injuries. The group had been en route from Pathum Thani to Suan Phueng District for a house construction job.

Nearby, a white Toyota pickup truck with registration from Ratchaburi was found overturned after crashing into a roadside shop, leaving the storefront in ruins. The vehicle was identified as the one that caused the crash. A male driver was trapped inside the wreckage and suffered severe injuries. Emergency personnel worked swiftly to extricate him and rushed him to Ratchaburi Hospital.

Dashcam footage from a driver who witnessed the crash revealed that the white pickup was speeding in the rightmost lane, swerving to avoid another vehicle, then abruptly cutting left in an attempt to overtake. The manoeuvre placed the car directly behind the worker transport truck in the left lane, which it slammed into at high speed. The impact sent the truck tumbling into the roadside canal, causing the workers to be thrown from the vehicle.

The white pickup then spun out of control, colliding forcefully with the roadside shop.

Mr Arthit, the driver of the overturned worker transport truck, told police he had been driving at a steady pace when the vehicle behind him suddenly rammed into the rear, sending his truck off the road. He expressed relief that, despite the severity of the crash, the injuries were not life-threatening for the passengers.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the incident and reviewing the dashcam footage as part of their ongoing inquiry.
