I have just returned my UK proof of life form and wondered if Australia sends out a similar form. How does the Government know that I am alive as I live mostly in Thailand ?

Are you 80?

That's the age when they start sending proof of life forms and every 2 years thereafter

Got my first proof of life document from Australia's Centrelink (services Australa) 4 months after my 80th birthday.

Luckily there's an Aussie guy who can ensorse the document here in Chiang Mai. pleasant guy, easy to talk to, he charges no fees and won't accept any type of gift. Also easy to met up at a Big C centre.

What are his credentials?

He can't be an Honorary Consul.  That service ceased in 2023.   He can't be a JP (Justice of the Peace) in Australia, because he can't witness documents outside of his jurisdiction.  He can't be working at the Embassy, and living in Chiang Mai.

"The Honorary Consulate in Chiang Mai closed on 21 December 2023."

The NSW JP Handbook.

https://dcj.nsw.gov.au/documents/legal-and-justice/justice-of-the-peace/the-role-of-jps/jp-handbook-full.pdf

"You can only witness a statutory declaration when both you and the declarant are physically present together in NSW, except in certain circumstances when you are delivering JP functions via audio-visual link (see page 14). "

True. Big C Don Chan 1 km from my house. Big C Extra 2 km from my house. Last time I met the Aussie guy at Swenens Big C Extra.

Plus Centrelink / Services Australia will accept the completed Proof of Life to be returned as an email attachment. Super easy.

The Chiang Mai guy is Neil Kilah, JP.

I must have fallen between the cracks, get my pension every fortnight.

Have not received a proof of life form by any medium in the last two years.

I guess until they learn otherwise they assume you (me, etc.), are alive. But not returning the Proof of Life document would also be an indicaton that the person is no longer alive, I guess.

Yes various Australian government agencies, private / commercial investment companies and banks do also send out 'Proof of Life' documents.

Some agencies start automatically sending the form when the person has their 80th birthday and then every 2 years.

Apparently they send the proof of life  form every 2 years after the pensioners 80th birthday.
