I was there 2003 to 2006

No thanks too hot in summer to boring everyday

Phuket has everything i need plus huge traffic conjestion to pee me off

Why would I want to live in the Isaan ( Korat ) area where:

I have a 2BR ( UNFURNISHED ) HOUSE that I rent @ 4,500bt a month - furnished it for under 60kbt - what most people want for a house "deposit", with a fenced yard, 3 trees, veggie & flower garden, gated community, located 20 minutes outside center city KORAT.

*) Immigration Office 15 minutes away.

*) 4 major stores and 7-11 between 12-15 minutes away.

*) over 1/2 way ( 4+ hours ) between family members both north and south.

*) Personal electric tryke transportation for local  - no car expences. Round  trip taxi to bank or bus station  280bt.

*) weekend activities, concerts, festivals, entertainment and etc at socker field or Temple ( non religious activities )

*)  mom & pop stores, restaurants, strip mall 4 + minutes away from house.

*) fishing lake ( natural ) 2 minutes from my door - no beach.

*) friendly NEIGHBORS and a resident soi dog and 3 cats greet / visit you all the time

*) 5G WiFi unlimited.

Spending a AVERAGE around 30,000bt +/- IN KORAT monthly living expenses, ( we do travel to BKK where we own a condo ) and take holidays when wanted.  Bank around 30,000bt monthly giving the wife 5,000bt spending / savings money.

Some people live there because it's cheap and others because it's quiet or that's where wife comes from.

Usually they find they either hate it or don't mind it and money they save they can travel anywhere else in the country for a break when they want .

You really don't know anything about Issaan

Probably due to gf or wife or word of mouth or they like quiet.

You do not have to be an expert, you just have to have lived there, not like you, driving through it and becoming the forum expert, guided by a 7/11 locations map.................😂

And eat at McDonalds :cheesy:

Funny thing is I probably know 4 cities far more than you cause you rarely visited or lived there. Living in Ubon or Burilam doesn't make you an expert on Nong Khai. I bet 1bn baht I know far more about Udon than you.

Yes you can, there is probably a location map out there just for you......😁

Isaan is a big area, there is even a beach if you know where to go.

I have been here longer than you, so my eyes are open, and waaaay more open than the OP, he probably doesn't even know there are 7/11's in most streets now......:cheesy:

I still want to know why they live in Issarn. A few have answered.

I can think of a few dozen reasons not to.

Bangkok is best living option with holidays on the water in south. 🌟

Gf or wife. Too lazy to move elsewhere perhaps. Lack of confidence to travel.

But that's a desolate wasteland not paradise.

We will increase our time there to months rather than weeks when wife retires.

I have. Mostly boring. Phanom Rung and the drive to Chiang Khan are the 2 best things. The nightlife is pretty dead. The restaurants are ok in Udon but you don't live there.  Cities like That Phanom barely have 5 good restaurants. Mukdahan is a dirty dump. Ubon is dead boring. Phimai is a dump apart from the ruins. Roi Et is good for 2 days. Mara Sarakham is good for 3 days. Sisaket is a dump. Nakhon Phanom has a nice river view and Ho Chi Ming museum but otherwise dull. Sakhon Nakon has 1 good temple. Khon Kaen is ok but CM is 10x better.

Farang tourists don't line up to go to Surin.

Issan is 90% boring.
