They're still talking about this bull****?? If I remember correctly it was first proposed pre-Covid like 6-7 years ago. Amazing Thailand.

The changes in Thailand earlier this year caused me to not spend the summer there.  My suitcases were 80% packed and I was planning to leave for Thailand in a few weeks when the bank change caused me to change my mind.  That cost Thailand at least 300,000 baht of my money.  Unless Thailand becomes welcoming again, I'm not planning on visiting again.

Fiction.

Nope absolutely true.  Now I don't know what to do with the bottles of barbecue sauce I bought for a friend of mine.

Hahaha

That TAT minister  somehow retains his post over the years and perhaps even decades ... pushing the 300b mafia fee must have his panties and a twist once again

He just cannot get that massive pool of cash and potential slush fund moving

As this fee has been on again off again for at least a decade or more my suggestion to the Thai government would be simply to scrap it as it's been taken off the table so many times it is obviously a suspect and very apparently a bad idea.

I think taxes levied on entry exit to Thailand must be somewhere approaching 1,500 baht with this 300b folded in. Maybe more

The incorrigible corruption in the country knows no bound and it simply.. like a dog that has got hold of a plush toy and tearing it to pieces simply cannot let it go.

The idea that Foreigner simply have in this amounts of cash to enrich the tire bureaucracy is confounding to see the least

Finally, I would add that there has never been any clear direction as to where this money was to be allocated and spent. It's always been a black hole in every news article I've read about it in the last decade or so

Saucy fiction

While officials maintain that the fee is fair and beneficial, they acknowledge the importance of timing. “We believe it’s prudent to wait until Q2 or Q3 of 2026,” Chakrapol stated. “By then, we should have clearer data on visitor trends and economic outlook.”

By the end of the second quarter of 2026, the government will have a full year's data from the TDAC, including the mode of travel. It will be interesting to see what decision, if any, the government will make on the basis of that data.

I'm sure someone in the Goverment will think of a way to extract more cash to off set the drop in Tourist numbers.

The logical Tha way will be to increase the the tourist fee.

I really cannot get my head around this. Why are they so in favour of charging a fee to enter the country, it is pathetic...

Every so often, we read about government officials complaining about "overtourism" and its detrimental effects on Thailand. Hence, the tourist fee can logically be viewed as a punishment for causing this damage to Thailand.

People really ought to wake up and take note of what is happening the world before whinging. Over 40 countries have had tourist tax for many years.

I have just been on holiday to Morocco, we were about £3.50 a night tourist tax. Both Scotland and Wales are looking to introduce tourist taxes.

Be thankful that Thailand is not looking to follow other countries and put it on accommodation based on passport and collected at check in.

The 300 baht would pale into insignificance for many of us.

Best not to deter anyone with an entrance fee.

Out of interest do they still take a donation on exit ?

You probably mean the airport tax for international departures. This is currently THB 700 for Suvarnabhumi airport in Bangkok, payable by all passengers and included in the ticket price.

IMO, any tourist that cannot afford 300 Baht entrance fee is not the kind of tourist Thailand needs.

I agree that B300 ($9, £7), is not, in itself, a significant sum, however the airlines will, are, reluctant to collect it and pass it over to the Thai government. That means that the arriving tourist will, as well as navigating immigration and customs, be met by a collection officer, inevitably in uniform, who will demand cash for "stepping onto Thai soil". Perceptions matter immensely, and after the tourist has coughed up their B300 ( and bear in mind if you are in a family 4 it will be more) every Taxi scam, dual pricing for visitors and twisted ankle on the obstacle courses which pass for pavements will lead to the perception " hmm, why did we have to pay for entry?"

Yes it is only a small sum ( for now), "one beer and a lady drink" but perceptions matter, and people, once it becomes common knowledge that your first interaction with Thailand is a demand for cash, will consider going elsewhere!

By the way, if it is introduced, how long do people reckon before a convincing case is made for hiking it to a nice round figure - say B1000?

What is this now the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th time its been delayed....

Very similar to the submarine where where the delays turn from months into years and very soon a decade.....

Just forget about it...

Takes time due to unintended conflict of colors...
