A 17-year-old boy was shot dead in the early hours of morning of 19 July, in a remote alleyway in Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani, prompting a full-scale investigation by police. Witnesses reported a group of armed men in a covered pickup truck ambushed the teenager before shots were fired.

The victim, later identified as Ananda, was found lying face down on a dirt road between Khlong L1 and L2 in Khlong Song subdistrict, not far from the provincial waste transfer station. Officers from Khlong Luang Police Station, forensic doctors, and emergency foundation personnel arrived at the scene around 01:30.

According to Pol Lt Col Uthai Thongsarai, deputy investigation chief at Khlong Luang Police, Ananda had sustained what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the head. His motorbike was discovered nearby and three of his friends, who were with him at the time of the incident, remained at the scene visibly shaken.

One of the friends, Vorawat 20, told investigators that the group of four had been riding motorbikes when a box-style pickup truck overtook and suddenly swerved in front of them. Several men then exited the vehicle, threatening them with weapons and reportedly throwing an object resembling an explosive to intimidate the group. Gunfire erupted shortly after and the attackers quickly fled.

Vorawat’s girlfriend who was also present, recounted that the group had left their home to buy some items when they were blocked by the pickup truck. One of the men, wearing a balaclava, approached and fatally shot Ananda at close range. She added that the victim had no known conflicts and that none of his belongings had been taken, suggesting robbery was not a motive.

Police have collected evidence at the scene and are currently reviewing nearby CCTV footage in an effort to identify the attackers and determine the motive behind the attack. The victim’s body has been sent to Thammasat University Hospital.

Investigators have not ruled out any lines of inquiry and are working to establish whether the killing was premeditated, linked to a personal dispute or involved in broader criminal activity.

The cops in Thailand need to stop play acting at being police and actually be police.
