A tourist van collided with the rear of a 22-wheel trailer truck on the Asian Highway in Pa Bon District, Phatthalung Province, on the afternoon of 18 July, leaving seven passengers injured, two of them seriously. The van driver blamed sun glare for obscuring his view.

Pol Lt Col Pradit Khunthong, the investigating officer at Pa Bon Police Station, responded to the scene after receiving reports of the crash on the northbound carriageway of the highway.

The collision involved a white Toyota van hired to transport tourists from Satun Province to Khao Chaison District. According to Mr Abdulrahman Hama 59, the trailer truck driver from Narathiwat Province, he had been driving in the left-hand lane when he suddenly heard a loud noise from the rear of his vehicle. After continuing for about 100 metres, he checked his rearview mirror and discovered the van lodged against the back of his trailer. He promptly pulled over and alerted the authorities.

Rescue workers found all seven passengers in the van injured, with two suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel reported that both have since been stabilised.

The van driver, whose name was not released, was uninjured and later taken in for questioning by police. He told investigators that intense sunlight at the time of the crash had temporarily blinded him, making it impossible to see the slow-moving trailer ahead, leading to a high-speed rear-end collision.

Officers from Pa Bon Police Station are continuing their investigation.

Everybody who are on highways travelling knows these high speed vans.

Speed limits seems not to exist to them.

But this time sun glare, next the "unexpected" rain, then the brakes.

For These drivers the police should seize their Transport and driving license for a long time/life time, if they cause passengers being admitted to hospitals or causing the death of their passengers

So prior to the crash the driver didn't notice the 22-wheel trailer truck in front of him whatever its distance was from the van? Criminal (due to injuries) negligence.

These minivan drivers need to be looked at seriously, We had problems with one yesterday he was trying to come up the inside of us which was almost impossible as we were not able to move to the outside lane because of heavy traffic, he was just being an idiot, The police should have a "Minivan Hotline" Im sure most people have a dashcam, send the clip with his number,

I once kept up with a convoy of them, but only for a couple of klms. Utter cowboys.

Oh really!

How about the glare from a smartphone screen?

The one clipped to the driver's sun visor? 😋

I stopped using these vans many years ago. Their drivers are going for speed records every single day. I had my heart hammering at the same speed, not to mention my stomach turned upside down. No wonder foreigners hate these rides.

I hope for a speedy recovery for all the injured. The driver should lose his license for good.
