Honestly I do feel sorry for Thai women who marry farangs like you and Fred who are just too stubborn and set in your ways to accept Thai culture but wanting to marry a Thai girl and live in Thailand.

If you don’t like or can not accept the local culture and traditions you should not be here with the local women.
It must put them in awkward situations.

How does the local culture intersect with the practice of sex work involving individuals, including young women, and a diverse clientele, such as thousands of Arabs and Indians in exchange for money?

I told my Thai wives if they want to marry Farang they have to accept Farang culture. My previous wife presented 1 million of her own money to save her face. It's her face and not mine. I would have been happy to remain unmarried, but she insisted. So pay up. The money was returned to her by her parents. They had no idea she put the money and not me.

Serious Question: Do westerners still pay sinsod? Has anyone actually witnessed this, and know for a fact, not hearsay, or pub gossip?

Yes.

last wedding I went to paid 500,000plus gold chains for mum.

She was a Patong bargirl with two kids to Thai men.

She was from Ubon where they will be going to spend their lives together.

According to the official sinsod calculator she was really only entitled to a chicken and a bottle of Lao Kao.

Farang jai dee.

I can’t imagine why she wanted to divorce you?

This is a common reply among simps who also end up divorced and still pay up sinsod and build properties on "family land".

Why is fred up at 6am, posting 💩?

Fred, look after your kid. Don't spend all the hours here posting absolute dross.

We? You mean you and Trans?

It's really pathetic. get off the Internet and look after your kid. Must be depressing for her seeing her dad posting on a forum all day and totally neglecting her.

If you don't have anything to write about sinsod, then why are you here, taking up good bandwidth? I'm here to read interesting comments, not to see you hijack yet another thread with your egotistical nonsense.

.. and it was that comment that you picked up on stating a '17 year old is worth something' which is typically and despicably lecherous of... as is your attempt to side step that criticism by a) claiming its part of the local culture... and b) deflecting the comment because of a somewhat irrelevant point of 'who's daughter a 17 year old might be'...

Would point out topic is about sinsot

And a 17 yo female might very well attract some in the next few years.

Not sure why some posters always think the worst?

Maybe some of you foreigners ought to try and fit in with Thai culture a bit more.

Come from your home countries then look down on the locals and their customs, etc.

Don't know about Fred, but if I don't get up at dawn every day, I'll end up with a cage of angry rabbits, wondering why I haven't let them out.

Not to mention, it's the best time of the day for going out walking, cycling, or just sitting around enjoying the cool air and the mountain views.

has the OP revealed how much sinsod he paid?

no, right? but snooping on everyone else?

You don't pay a sin sod for daily bargirls. In time, everyone understands other's motive here, especially when they act innocent.

Right.

So for people like that, to be fair, we need a "Lifetime Barfine-Short time Calculator" and see how it compares to most people's Sinsods.

1500 Baht x Average Short Times Per Week x Number of Years Living in Pattaya

Negotiations with the parents can be tense for the novice.

The Thai tradition is that each party appoints a friend and the friends do the negotiating for the families....

I think some of the guys here don't protest so much in the West where the bride's family pays for the wedding....

A lot of the farangs can’t speak thai and their friends can only speak English and have no idea of excepted values.
It also leaves open that your “friend” will take a cut.

Much easier to negotiate with the official sinsod calculator.

some guys look like they're getting carried away with the wais.

almost starts to look silly and like "a show" rather than genuine respect for the person or culture.

Depends on the girl.

Are you married?

Beauty is only skin deep. There's 10m single ladies. 500,000 baht is 1000 nights in hotels. Think about it.
