Yah, but they're 48 years old and look like my girlfriend's grandmother.

On a rough day.

No, plenty under 30.

Most under 40.

Have you got your girlfriends grandmother number?

Another earth shattering topic from you as usual, Susan.   What's next? "How much bottled water do you buy when you go to Makro?"

An "old hand" bragging that he's seen it all? And you know Thais and Thai culture better than anyone?  And they get you. And you get them.

  • 1430 islands. And Harrisfan has seen them all.

But no beaches.

I've been to pretty well all of them, back in the 1980s/1990s I worked as a photojournalist in tourism, freelancing for Bangkok Post and some glossy Thai magazines. So over the years went to many from the Thai-Malaysia border (Tarutao-Adang-Lipe-Bulon Lae) up the Andaman coast side through the Trang and Krabi Islands to PhangNga & Phuket, then a few further north, plus the Gulf side (fewer islands there but all the obvious ones Like Samui, Phangan, Tao) and of course most of the islands off the coastlines of Chonburi/Rayong/Chantaburi/Trat. About the only group of Thai islands I haven't been to are the ones off the coast of Ranong. I also did several yacht trips out of Phuket in the 1980s to all sorts of islands, some I can't even remember the names now, many were unsettled except for maybe a couple of shacks belonging to Thai fishermen. There were quite a lot of Chao Lae (sea gypsies) back then and you'd find them on many of the smaller islands over the Andaman side, but I believe most have been absorbed into the general Thai population these days as laws were passed making education compulsory for Chao Lae kids, so they more or less had to move to the mainland.

It does not count if you were working!

Sadly no, but then the Phuket beaches are, well, awful.

Sure if people like golf Pattaya might suit but Phuket and Hua Hin have golf.

Phuket much more expensive, Hua Hin boring

The beach is pretty good also.

you can get a chair, seafood, other food, cold beer and even not so fresh women brought to you and an umbrella.

Yes, but how often? daily no way

Yes, big problem with Chiang Mai no beaches, after a while you want one

For 8 months of the year the west coast beaches are wonderful.

And certainly a lot better than no beach.

Next he'll be asking how many street markets we've been to, floating markets and how much we pay for polo shirts.

Those questions would be boring. Thai islands are pretty cool. Well most used to be.

I don't know a beach with a giant sewage pipe going in or no beach...I'd say probably no beach.

And those Pattaya beaches with the stones....I mean come on...

I like being near one I definitely don't want to go to one every day, better things to do

beach is good for sun-bathing. although many people avoid the sun.

also, there's a nice breeze. it's a refreshing break from the claustrophobia of being surrounded by buildings everywhere.

the beach soothes the soul, even if you can't swim in there.

It's like with a pool, you want to have it, but you'll never use it.

Some towns are boring. What is life all about? Age old question.

Kii Nok is rarely used. Seems an odd topic.

I'll take anyone's topics over yours. Even Bob or Malcolm are far better by a country mile.

Not true. You read 100% of my posts. You are totally obsessed.

I have been to two islands, Koh Samui and Koh LAN.  Twice to  Koh Samui, on both occasions before the outbreak of Covid..   I stayed in the Lamai Beach Area, very nice. I was humoured by the number of pirates walking around.  Old guys wearing bandanas, large earring one ear, mustache, goatee beard, or a Hunk Hogan look alike mustache blended into the goatee. All with tattoos on their arms,  Wearing wife beater singlets, some with the Union Jack blazing on front of the singlets.
they look like they were all cloned

Do these pirates exist today?
